What do people think about getting my new labradoodle pup started on Lyme disease vaccine? My yard is frequented by deer and we do get a lot of ticks but I did start Frontline. My vet says that its better to start with Lyme vaccine as a puppy. Any experience or opinions?

I would absolutely get it. I always have for my dogs and did with Daisy when she was vaccinated as a puppy. It's not worth the risk IMO. My neighbor's Golden Retriever is currently living with Lyme's disease

I see you are going to get the vaccine. I"m just seconding or thirding that. Especially since you are in Jersey - I am in CT. The ticks were relentless last season through October even. I was glad Ace had had the shot...

Our Hayley is 14 weeks old and is getting the Lyme shot in a couple weeks. She has already received the Heart worm (which she will get monthly)..I believe it's called Setinel and the Frontline PLUS flea and tick monthly which we can do ourselves at home by putting on her back in between the neck and backbone. Would def recommend all three, especially if you have other pets in the household or if your dog is ever around other animals.

Good recommendation Hays. Last time at the vet I did start Scout on heartworm and frontline plus in addition to her second round of shots and deworming med. Next visit she will get the Lyme vaccine in addition to her third round of shots. Thanks everyone!

I'm located in Jersey as well, and I get Layla vaccinated for Lymes every year. My vet recommended it and from some friends I know, Lymes in a doggie is a very scary, not worth it disease if you can prevent it.
Definitely get it! |
