Default Going on a trip without the dogs.

I'm back with another question! I know how to take a dog on a trip because I have done it a few times, but unfortunately we will have to leave them at home this time. We are going on another honeymoon in a few weeks. I cannot wait but I'm worried about the dogs. My solution is that I'm going to leave his cage open so he can have reign over the house. We have done it before but never for this long. We will be gone for 4 days. Food is easy but our main concern is the water situation. Now, I read on another forum about these types of indoor water fountains that they could just drink out of instead of having sitting water in their cages that they could run out of. Anybody have any experience with this idea? If you think it's a good idea, I will go check out the types of indoor fountains. Thanks so much!

Can't you have someone check on them daily?
I would not feel very comfortable leaving them for that many days......

I would absolutely not leave them alone that many days. At the least you should have someone come check on them once a day, maybe a walk or a little playtime as well. And for their own safety, 4 days is a long time for a dog to get into something. Perhaps there is a dog sitting or walking service that could at least come walk them, change their food, and water each day?

Are you REALLY going to leave these dogs alone?
Also, I was wondering if you are simply advertising those fountains and, in your other post, carpet cleaners?
We'd love to have you onboard, yet I see many concerns over what you're doing with all these doodles. Please help me out here. I don't want to jump to any conclusions.

You're going to do WHAT?!?!

What happens if something scares your dog and they run to their kennel for comfort, but in doing so they knock the door to their kennel which then swings in and locks them in their kennel....I've seen it happen, what happens if that goes down on the first day you've decided to leave them alone?

How is your dog supposed to get outside to do their business? DO NOT leave your dog alone for that long. I'm trying very hard to not go off on a rant right now....

And if you are curious about water fountains for dogs then look into something like this: fountain rather then some crazy expensive home furnishing that your dog can drink out of...or just stop advertising cause that's more annoying.

Holy cow! I could not even imagine leave a dog home for even whole day never mind four. Where will they poop and pee, on the floor? I would board them before I would do that. Can you have a family member come over three times a day to take them out?

i have 3 pretty well behaved dogs..

but, whether you ve done all you could to care for them alone..there s just too many things that can go south on you ..smart dogs will find some way to entertain themselves while your away..some of them can end up pretty tragic..

a drop in dog sitter is the next best thing to kenneling them or having
grandma take care of them..

I truly sense that this poster has opened an avenue for us to let off some winter blues steam!
Putting it bluntly, I really don't believe anyone capable of such stupidity and lack of sense.
Perhaps this "member" is already off on a another honeymoon and has left the doodles to pee and poo on their white carpet.....as discussed in another threat?

I hate it when some people allow me to be unkind.

I sense that since she hasn't written back...she didn't expect us all to tell her leaving them alone is NOT a good idea..! LOL! I hope she does NOT go that route and does whats right for the dogs!
