Default How do I get my pup to stop chasing the cats?

Our pup has been doing reall well for the most part with the "leave it" command but has been obsessing over chasing the cats anytime they enter the room. Hayley is now allowed in the most common area's of the house because she is near potty trained but she does not listen to our "leave it" command when it comes to the cats. Any ideas?

This is a basic obedience skill that has to be continually reinforced.
It's the same as teaching the dog to ignore another dog.

Practice getting Hayley in a sit or down position. With one hand over her back, but not touching, let the cat come in. Start saying IGNORE!!!! If she starts to get up, push her down gently as you say ignore.
Reward her each time and praise!! Might take awhile but it works.

I never worked on this one with my dogs and regret it.....
We have a cat that they don't bother, but love to chase the feral cats around here.
Since the addition of a third dog to walk, I always panic if I see one.
I told my neighbor if her ever sees me being drug down the street with their leashes wrapped around my legs to please help! LOL

Good behavior to nip in the butt!

Thanks for your help!!! Will try the "ignore/leave it" continuously! Hopefully it will pay off...there are times when she doesn't bother the cats at all...but our male cat is just an instigator..! I think he likes when she chases him...but I do NOT!

Hays....noticed that you live in Lancaster, PA.
All my relatives live in Pottsville/Minersville.
I ended up in Weed, CA.
I have been the butt of jokes forever at the postoffice! LOL
