Default Doodles and rawhide?

We have read both good and bad about rawride . It can plug up digestion , it can be made w/ bad chemicles from poor countries etc. Any input on the subject ?? because Chloe just loves hers. We monitor her closely when she chews it and it is in her toy rotation so she doesnt have it all of the time. It really seems to occupy her during theese heavy chewing puppy times. Thanks, M&K

Please do not give Rawhide!!
Danger Rawhide

I know that you are not supposed to give cooked bones, but I have given LARGE smoked knuckle bones to get my pups through the tough parts of teething.
I also use giant, raw carrots, bully sticks, cardboard....boxes and rolls from toilet paper & paper towels. (they don't eat it, just love to shred them)

We have read numerous material on bones that are good and NOT good to give our pup, we are also currently in puppy petsmart training and our vet along with all other sources I've mentioned have made it clear that if you have to use rawhides, use the COMPRESSED rawhides...it is a very small section in the pet stores, but it is bolded and labeled Compressed Rawhides. Bully sticks are also great and they love them, but they smell so bad! LOL! We also use Femur bones, and knee caps/knuckle bones that are filled with peanut butter/cheese/beef! Hayley loves them! We have tried deer antlers and they are also recommended, but Hayley doesn't really care for them. some dogs do though, so maybe you'll try it. Hope this helps!

Not all the bully sticks smell....and I have had a few of the smelly ones! LOL

The ones that did smell where wrapped in plastic, so I avoid those now and haven't noticed smelly ones anymore...

My dogs LOVE the deer antlers, if you are lucky enough to get some from hunting, be sure to cut off the points and bake them in the oven for 20 min. @ 200 degrees to sterilize them!

Georgia loves the antler, and I hate the rawhide, just because it turns to glue on the hair on her legs where she is holding it down. The antler is my new favorite chew toy, because there is no odor, no staining, and no matted leg hair!

You just have to look around. I live in a small community and purchase them at the feed store.
If I have a choice (sometimes both are in the bin), I always go for the unwrapped.
You could also probably scratch the plastic & smell too, the plastic wrapped ones don't always smell, I have just noticed that those tend to be the ones that do....

On buying them...I have also seen them for sale at Cost-co, they are like 2 ft. long and at a very good price....if they re particularly stinky, I would think you could take them back....

The Petco and petsmart in my area have loose, unwrapped bully sticks. I've never had one that smelled.

My puppy loves pig ears. She chews on them for a while then when they get gross looking I throw them away.

Speaking of things that are bad for puppies: Mine She loved chicken jerky but they are ALL made in China. There were many reports of dogs getting sick on chicken jerky from China, it was from all different companies. Now I look for products made in North America. I don't buy any food that was processed in China.

Glad RAWHIDE IS GONE! That stuff can really do a job on any dog.
I get Bogart the non-stinky bully sticks too. If you can't find them in a store nearby, google them and order online.

Same here. Frozen baby carrots were amazing when she was teething. Ice was great. And any cardboard, TP, or paper towels, man does she love to shred them, haha.

Bones filled with PB are awesome. Bully sticks are amazing too.
