Ace's Place....
I would buy some of this ear cleaner....DermaPet-Malacetic-Otic
Amazon.com: "DermaPet" Malacetic Otic Ear/Skin Cleanser (16 oz): Pet Supplies Amazon.com: "DermaPet" Malacetic Otic Ear/Skin Cleanser (16 oz): Pet Supplies

I also use a mix of 1/3 white vinegar, 1/3 water, & 1/3 rubbing alcohol and will use that in their ears.
They swim a lot in the summer....

Dr. Becker has a wonderful video on cleaning ears!

Reporting back! I think the hemostat was a little too large and unweildy for me to handle. Went to cvs this morning looking for tweezers with rounded edge. Couldn't find those, but for $12 found a smallish pair made by revlon that actually has a little led light that will shine right into the ear - it worked perfectly! First Ace's dad had him out all morning hiking in the woods, then when they came back we closed the front door, put on some spa music, I put lavendar lotion on my hands (remembered caesar milan suggesting this - apparently its a calming scent) - and the the biggest thing was Dave sat in front of ace holding his head still - but also with a peanut butter stuffed kong for him to lick. I got the job of tweezing the hair out. Really, it was more like tweeizing - less like pulling. the hair was fine, it came out easy, and yes there was some brown and white crust that was also coming up. Didn't do too long - wanted to keep it positive - but it worked and I can see doing this now! Really - don't be afraid. But do make sure your dog has had a good run first! Cleaned ear after. Maybe at some point he won't need the kong - but for now bribery worked!! lol

Thank you every body!! I feel alot better because I know he will feel a lot better!!

I’ve tried pulling ear hair out of Eloise’s ears but she yelps and jumps up to get away. She just won’t sit still for it. I’ll keep trying because it is a quick and simple way to do it. I did our poodles that way for years. I’ve got her to the point to let me use a little battery nose hair trimmer to do it. It took a while to get her to let me stick a buzzing thing in her ear but once she found out it didn’t hurt she allows it.
