Default what does a skin allergy look like?

The past 3 large bags of food were downgraded from his usual brand due to access issues. Now I feel that I might have contributed to an allergy. They appear like little scabs on his skin. He isn't scratching and what I can say is that it has started since I might have over brushed him with the slicker brush and scratched the s*&% out of him. He is not in pain, not itchy, I just noticed 30mins ago when i was giving him a bath.
I will definitely be reverting his food back to acana or orijen on the next bag!
as bad as it sounds, I hope it is just a food allergy to crap-ass food! and not something major. Upon changing food, how long could I expect it to take to clear up IF it is a food allergy?

it very well could be a food allergy..but, you say he s not scratching
and there s scabs..which leads me consider there might be a parasite
involved.

he scratches, just not to the point where I think it is extreme. and the scab things are tiny almost hair folicle size.. but last night when I checked.... I couldnt see anything... maybe giving him a scrub in the bath worked at removing them and the skin hasnt had time to dry out to create more? I will be monitoring it daily
