You could try a
at the door that way he would be able to let you know when he needs to go out. We've had great success with it. Make sure you use a good enzyme cleaner when he does go in the house. They will tend to revisit the same spots.

I would just keep taking him out as often as you can even if he isn't telling you he has to go out. That way, eventually he will HAVE to do it outside and eventually this should reinforce it. I would be tempted to ask the vet about it too. He could have giardia or some other stomach bug. Our dog has had a few bladder infections and our first sign of it was when she started having accidents in the house for no apparent reason. Once the antibiotics kicked in the accidents stopped.

I had considered a medical issue, but he has had fairly firm stools, especially considering that I'm in the process of switching his food (we've had quit the food saga), and I had thought that if it was a stomach bug he would have runny stool, so I assumed that it was something else. Could it be because of the switch? I have stopped the transition until I am sure that this is over. Rather than chance it maybe I'll give the vet a call. He hasn't had an accident since my last post, so I'm hoping that this is over. I also don't think that it has to do with his smelling where he had gone, because we use a carpet cleaner and then an enzyme cleaner on all the spots and the accidents are never in the same place.

Don't give up! Something is making this happen and we have to figure it out.
If it were me, I would definitely get the advice of my vet. I'm not sure the stool has to be soft to indicate a problem.......Take a fecal sample in when you go. Sorry.......we love our doods and get so concerned. Bogart was sick last week with vomiting and a temperature. He was on antibiotics for 7 days.

Oh no! Is Bogart feeling better? I called the vet and he said that since he hasn't had an accident in three days, is eating the same, has a normal temperature, and is at his normal activity level (which is always at "turbo" ha ha) then for now just keep on eye on him, but if ANYTHING changes to bring him in. He thinks that it was the food switch, since he was going from a grain-inclusive food to grain-free. He said that I should go even slower than normal because of the jump in protein levels.
