Juneau is back to being his happy health self again. I did bring up the Panacur suggestion and she said that we can try that the next time he gets sick.
Since we're always in the middle of switching his food, she doesn't want to overwhelm his system too much...which I agree with. Since IBS is hard to diagnose in dogs our vet wants to exhaust all other potential problems first, just incase his bloody bowels are a side effect from something else that we haven't discovered yet. We don't want to give him meds that might mask the problem and not solve it.

Hope Juneau is feeling better!
I am mentioning this just in the event that it is helpful for anyone. I am in Week 3 of taking Ace off of ALL chicken/turkey/duck/sweet potato food and treats. He is doing great! No more bile vomit, no diarhea, eyes have cleared, ears have cleared, coat which was becoming dull and dry is shiny and curly again, no more snoring at night, itching has stopped, obssessive licking of body parts has stopped, shaking of head due to ear infections has ended. I am so happy about all of this I can't even tell you - because I know he feels better!! He was slowly switched to EVO herring and salmon kibble. Even tho everything I read says it takes a good six weeks to see if the food switch was an allergy and to flush the body of the food intolerance, by week 2 half the symptoms stopped, by week 3 the others have ended. The bile vomit ended almost immediately as soon as the food switch happened. I'm told many dogs cannot handle chicken in their diet - and turkey and duck are just other forms of poultry. In a couple months I plan to test out Origen red kibble to see if beef is okay also. PLUS - I have on the advice of my dogwalker stopped with the toppers and also the feeding schedule. I now put down a cup of dry kibble in the a.m. (leave there) and another cup of kibble in the evening (leave there). He is eating what he needs (most of it) and we have stopped with the stressful thing of trying to get him to eat within 15 minutes. He is actually eating more on schedule than before. I've spent hours and a small fortune on all the toppers, etc. and its back to basics. I also chop up two small peanut butter or salmon treats and throw in there just to get him interested. Just in the event that this is helpful for anyone as I have really struggled for the past six months with the feeding schedule which was becoming so stressful for him and me- and the food intolerance. I agree with deep nite that there are many reasons for a doodle's sensitive stomach and other issues, but I wanted to share in the event that it helps anyone out there. |
