we call her monkey dog because she is a little monkey! she is not listening to anything I ask her to do. We would have one day of her doign everything I ask, but another day like today where I need to get the children to school so need to get the dog in from the garden and she will sit there and ignore me calling her... I have gone out there to get her and she runs away! I don't know what to do so just go in and close the door! even if its raining she won't come in. She digs in the garden too! I have been told she willl grow out of that. I have looked into classes, and found one called pawplay which I have emailed and see if they can help but thought I would come back here and ask!
Here she is being a monkey this morning! in the garden of destruction she has left!! lol

She is simply ADORABLE!!! I know that's not the reply you are looking for but I had to say it, she's just too cute for words. I'm thinking some training/classes will do the trick

What a sweet face!
yea it's the "teenage years" I think right? Malcolm is there as well. He runs from me unless I have a treat in my hand lol. I am going to be taking him in for additional obedience training next weekend though. Yay! |

monkey dog... I call mine PITA.. I have talked to trainers, I have showed them exactly what you described (he does the same and it is ALWAYS when you are in a rush) and they basically have gone home to "research". Its not that they arent listening, its that they listen too much! why go inside when I can be out here having fun. I have come to realize that simply Winston has too much fun outside, so I make inside even more fun. now 90% of the time, he will come in morning noon and night... only took over a year to show him that inside is just as good as outside!!

I have found many helpful dog training trips by searching on You Tube....worth a look if you have some time. Spending the time to train them is also important...ten minutes at a time is all you need to do with treats. Getting my Rex to "come" when called has been my biggest challenge but we are getting there now....although, if he is distracted by another dog or a rabbit I've got no chance of him coming to me....he's only 8 months so I'll keep working on it....be firm and consistent. Good luck!
