Default Crate Training

I looked throughout the forums for an answer to this with no luck, so I will start a new thread.

We are picking up our new 7 month old, crate trained, Labradoodle tomorrow and I need to know what do we do to continue. Do we place her in the crate at night for the next couple nights, or do we assume the training will take, now that she is in our home. We are planning on being home with her, full time, until next monday and then will confine her to the kitchen with food, water and the crate, after that for a period of about 5 hours. From what I've read, that should be doable for a dog of this age. She will only be in this situation for two days a week. I guess I am just asking about the crate training transition from one home to the next.

The crate training is new to me as I haven't personally had a dog in over 20 years.

This is a great site full of great information. I am sure I will be visiting often.

Thanks,

Default Oops.

Should have dug a little deeper (or looked a little shallower considering it is just below this topic). Looks like I found some answers.

If it were me, I would follow the exact crate routine as close as I possibly could to her current situation. I would do this until she and you are both comfortable with each other and her being in her new home and environment. I'm assuming that if she's truly crate trained that she will find comfort and security in her crate Good luck! Post pictures if you can, we always love to see!!

Does anyone know when their doodle started to sleep through the night? Our Zoe loves sleeping in her crate but she's only 11 weeks old so she wakes up once in the middle to go to the bathroom. Usually around 3. Then wakes up again around 6:30 when I wake up to go outside and have breakfast. I would like to have her eventually sleep through the night but I'm not sure if I have to do something to train her or if she will eventually do it on her own.

Daisy joined our family at 14 weeks and was sleeping thru the night. The breeder started the crate training process and Daisy had it pretty much mastered when we got her. So, I'm not sure if it just happened on its own or if the breeder did something special. We'd let her out to potty about 10:30PM and then she was up by 6:00AM to go out. But she never got us up in the middle of the night to go out. Good luck, surely your time is coming soon of uninterrupted sleep
