When we got Toby, he was almost 14 weeks old, we put him in a crate at night - around 10:30pm, in our kitchen on the first floor. He only barked for a minute or two sometimes in the middle of the night and stayed in his crate until about 6-6:30am. No whining at all or bathroom trips. He's now 7 months and our boys want him to sleep upstairs in their room, but I'm nervous about it. I hear most wait until a year old, true?

Malcolm is 6 months old now and I've been letting him sleep just wherever in the bedroom for about a month. Most nights now he sleeps in the bed with me.
When I put him in the crate he got up at 5AM! Now he'll sleep until I get up (whenever that might be). He doesn't get up at night (except if he might be sick) to go out or anything. And I do have the door shut so he's restricted to the bedroom and the bathroom. |

Our dog was never crated. (crazy, i know) but from day one, he decided to sleep in our bedroom on the floor. In the beginning, i did get up few times at night to see if he had to go. We also trained him to use the bell and let us know if he had to go so if he needed to go outside. Three years later, he is still in our bedroom, on his blanket, sharing the bedroom with us.
