OK so Loopy is now 4 months old... He has been at our house since 8 weeks. We did the whole crate training thing, he went from a small crate to a now huge crate and he has never done any business in there... but for several weeks now only goes in his crate at night, during the day he is stays in our Florida room. He went weeks doing great but now suddenly he is peeing and pooping in the Florida room!!! What the heck!
Is he potty trained or not? What are we doing wrong and how can we fix this? He even pee'd on his doggy bed

I realize that just because you have a Florida room does not mean you live in Florida..but do you?
Many Florida rooms are screened in and have the feel of being outside. Some even have like Astroturf. If you have something like this, my guess is Loopy feels he's outside and can go! It's like our kennel where they have an indoor arena to play with Astroturf. Even a housebroke dog will do their business on this. Have you ever watched the Puppy Bowl? They also have Astroturf and they are constantly cleaning up. If it's cement, Loopy may still feel he's outside if screened. Now, if your Florida room is a four season room that is actually like another room to your home, then it's hard to say why he's doing this. ECXEPT that if he spends loooong periods of time in there, he may just feel it's become his spot to go! My guess is that you may have to deprive him of the FLA room for awhile & only allow him indoors and outside! He needs to break the habit by not allowing him in there unattended for long periods of time.

Hi Linda.. we Do live in Florida
I guess my best idea is to go back to giving him Bacon treats when he pees outside. Ohhhhhhhh this is so much work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL I'm open to ANY ideas or suggestions

Hmmm I dunno I read on something somewhere about accidents. If they tee-tee inside and you don't catch them to stop them you sop it up with a paper towel, leave it on the floor and, with puppy watching, tell the paper towel "bad potty". Then you pick it up and take it outside to where puppy should be going and lay it down and tell it "good potty" - all the while making sure puppy sees and hears what you're doing. And don't let them see you pick it up and bring it back inside to throw away.
I guess it would work the same way with poo, but I've never done it for that. Malcolm has only poo'd inside twice. He's had more tee-tee accidents than anything (and usually in someone else's house of course). But that method seems to work. I had to do it for him twice at my mom and dad's and then he started asking to go out at the door where I took the paper towel out. Good luck |

Good advice... Thanks.
I like the idea of depriving him of the Florida room... We have a screened in pool just off the Florida room and I'd like for him to stay there... but I'm afraid he'd use the bathroom all over the pool deck. GAH! We'll try to pay more attention to him (if possible!) and keep him in the yard more. ...If anybody else has something to add, I'd really like to hear it

Our Bailey just turned 4 months old. We thought she was pretty well potty trained as well. She was doing great at going outside to go. All of the sudden this week, she has decided she wants to go inside without warning. Call me crazy, but I think she is trying to test us out in a way. She has peed twice tonight inside, and has been let out to go potty atleast 4 times in the last 4.5 hours. She pees every time. Hoping we can get her back under control also.
