Default Getting Leo Tomorrow..

I am traveling to New Mexico tomorrow to pick up my new 10 month old Labradoodle. I am super excited. What kinds of things can I do to make his transition easier at his new home? Oh, and a 7 hour car ride home?

WELCOME!!!!

I wish I had the time to search out this forum for you about your questions.
If you have a chance, put in key words in the search bar. We have tons of info on what people bought to make their new pup happy with various toys and beddings.

Do you have a crate? It should be a size where the pup can only sit and turn around comfortably.....and a cozy bedding in it.
Your local pet store could help you pick out a few chew toys that won't hurt him and keep him occupied.

Prepare your avenue to get him outside as soon as you see a sign of him going potty.

I don't have much advice on the 7 hr ride.
But I'd have a car seat or a car crate for him to travel. You will definitely need to stop a few times so he can relieve himself, so be sure to have a leash and collar that are trustworthy.....so he can't pull out of the collar over his head (OH! That happens! If the collar isn't on tight enough, they can slip their head out of it and....gone. ).....and make sure the leash is hooked on properly.

Hopefully, he will sleep the entire way!......Then he'll be wide awake to drive you nutso with energy when you get home from a long drive!

Congratulations and keep us posted.

Are you home with your doodle? If so, how did it go?

Arrived home with him last night. He slept with our other dog. He seems very, very nervous. I feel sorry for the big guy. He loves our children and chases them around but mostly he looks out the window and looks for his old family.
Today, he got groomed and looks stunning. I am going to miss him tonight. He is spending the night at my work, he is getting neutered tomorrow morning.
Thanks everyone for the advice and support!
P.S He did really well on the car ride to his new forever home.
