Default 1st grooming in a few hours.... need help!!!

So loopy is having his first grooming today.. he has a very cute scruffy look that I would like to keep, I definitely don't want him shaved down like a lab. What should I ask for???? I've never had a dog so I'm not even familiar with the terms. I've read somewhere in here about 3/4 inches... is that a blade size?
HELP I've only got a few hours before it's time!!!
I'll post a pic of him now so you guys can tell me what to do.

Thanks!!!

I don't have any answer for you about the blade size, sorry . We've had Daisy groomed twice and both times I told them don't touch her body, just to scissor cut her face and very lightly trim her legs w/ scissors (she has super skinny legs so she needs all the bulk she can get lol!). She is now to the point we need to have her body trimmed but we, too, don't want her shaved. The first time we had her groomed she came home looking like a poodle. But the second time we took her somewhere else and I actually took pictures in with me of how I wanted her to look. I basically told them to do a Doodle puppy cut and gave them a picture. She turned out pretty decent. The only negative is that they completely cut off her eyebrows, and I mean literally cut them off, oh and her eyelashes too which I couldn't get over. But, it all grew back and even within a few weeks she was starting to look not so shaved in the face. So I guess just be very specific with them and take pictures with if you can. Good luck, hope it goes great!!

It's only been an hour since you've posted.
I'm going to try to find a doodle cut "recipe" I have, but I don't know if it's on this laptop.
My other one crashed and I am suppose to pick it up this week.

But, let me start with what I DEMAND they do so Bogart still looks scruffy.

1. Tell them he MUST have his eyebrows trimmed only slightly. And that you want minimal taken off his curly top.
2.Same for his beard and muzzle...you want minimal so he still has something there.
3. Bogart has very, very skinny legs. So I tell them to take minimal off them.
4. I can't really see his tail......I tell them I want it to stay feathered.
5. What they do then is cut his back down. They blend it in to the longer top by shorter at the neck into the longer top.
And they blend the longer thighs into a shorter hip and back.
Let me see if I can find it.
In the meantime, check out the forum and google doodles to print pictures you want him to look like.

I'm sorry, but I can't find it.

Let me just add one thing. When Bogart is done, he does NOT look like a poodle. He has a "boxy" face, full, feathered legs, feathered tail, eyebrows, a curly top, kind of squared off ears, nice clipped nails and a potty cut, of course.
Potty cuts are important, as well as ear plucks.

Tell us how it went!

It went great!!! I told her I didn't want him shaved like a lab and that I really liked the scruffy face. So she cut some of his body fur even all around and touched up his cute face and he looks too irresistible!!! Thanks for your help!!! and here is his picture!

i hope im not too late in chiming in..if so, i hope it turn d out GREAT..maybe not great cuz it s been too much to hope for PERFECT..
so id settle for just OK..

for a puppy cut, or first cut they use a #4 blade..to get down low enough
so the next coat would grow back curlier..after they begin to use a #6..

not liking the looks from the #6 blade..which left Toby s coat shorter than i liked..i began using the #8 blade which gives him a cut which leaves the coat about 1 1/2" long..

i did nt like the first 2 cuts since it left his coat too short to my liking..since then i ve been doing his grooming myself..from eyebrows, paws, face and body..even plucking his ears with a hemostat once a week..its not easy..and i can understand why they charge so much for a full groom..but, for a little more you can get a pretty decent set of clippers and grooming tools if your inclined to DIY..

the whole process goes something like this..

DAY 1..ears and face..i ll shave the inside flaps of the ears and pluck the hair inside his ears and clip his ears with the #6 blade and scissor cut the ends..as well as his muzzel and eyebrows..

DAY 2..i have a small powerful little electric clipper..i use it to clip the hair between the pads and around the paws..*for the sake of sanity, i add the 3rd day..

DAY 3..after combing his hair out i use the #8 blade and begin behind the head and work backwards..cutting in the direction of the flow of the coat..each stroke about 8" long, 3 or 4 times..Toby s top line flows backwards towards the tail while his side flow downwards..cut in the direction of the flow or your going to cut too much off.. ..then go back finishing the head..

though i use the #8 blade all over..i use the #4 blade behind the legs to keep it clean..then i have Toby get into the *sleep* position and i shave his belly *to help him keep cool and neat* without a blade..i shave the area between the legs, half way from his torso to the anus where you ll call it a sanitary cut..hopefully he ll hold still for you to cut the hair all around and on his doot doot *be careful, your not using a blade*

one final brushing, then cleaning up the hair in the living room..then finally spraying his coat with a mixture of water and lotion to bring out the curl..

ALL DONE !!

don t forget to brush his teeth atleast a couple times a week too..

Hello - to deep nite...
Considering some DIY. Would you share if there is a particular brand of shaver that you use?
Thanks!
