As in loose stool. Malcolm has had soft pudding poops since Monday so I increased his yogurt and started giving him boiled chicken and rice once a day.
Really wasn't improving so today I just fed the chicken and rice and no dog food. He only had yogurt twice today. But now he has full on runny poo. ![]() Not sure what else to do aside from calling the vet on Monday. Anyone else have suggestions? Will not be feeding the chicken and rice again any time soon. |

Yep! The vet and a stool sample tomorrow!
I forgot how "young" he is. Bogart went through this in his puppyhood and was loaded with all kinds of parasites and worms. We spent months getting rid of all the scuz in his system. The breeder paid a good percentage of the bill as it was discovered it came through her kennel. Very surprising, because she took special care to prevent these things in her pups. I then knew why other breeders asked us not to visit more than one breeder aa day and wear different shoes. Sometimes if you go from one breeder to another, you carry things to the next one. Makes sense! I hope you get this figured out soon. Poor you & Malcolm. Stick with the chicken and rice.....drop the yogurt.....until you find out what is going on with a fresh stool sample.

Yes, I would call the vet on Monday. We went thru this off and on with Daisy for many months when we first got her. It was the most frustrating thing!! A few times we had to literally take her completely off her regular food and she had to go on a bland diet dog food that we could only get thru our vet. She had to stay on that until she had at least 2 days of solid stools then we could very slowly reintroduce her regular dog food by mixing both foods each time. Kind of a PITA but it worked and she got better. And it was easier than cooking rice and boiled chicken, that got old real quick and it wasn't working. Daisy had a few rounds of parasites and worms as well, ugh!!!

Thanks. I'll keep on with the chicken and rice then...I fasted him for 12 hours today (he's 4 months) and gave him the chicken and rice for dinner.
(this is kinda gross lol) His poo was still runny this morning but this evening it was getting more solid. He only went twice today so he's not like running out to go potty every 5 or 10 minutes. Plan to call the vet in the AM though. Hopefully no parasites!! *cross fingers* |

It appears "gross" but we talk about our doodles poo like we talk about the consistency in our baby's diapers!! Not unusual around here! Did you go to the vet?

LOL this is true
I didn't get to the vet yet ended up having to take my mom to the doctor. But we're back to a step above pudding now. Still on chicken and rice. I should be able to get him (or at least his poo) to the vet tomorrow. |

OK his poo is normal this morning. I'm so confused. I don't remember Jesse (my lab) ever having this issue...is it a poodle thing? Are they extra sensitive? I don't remember if Pax (the poodle we had when I was a kid) had tummy issues or the like.
Maybe the Orijen is just too much for him? I've been introducing it slowly but I've gotten up to half and half (Orijen and the Nutro Natural Choice) after about a month. I'll still call the vet, but just musing about things here too |

$75 later - no parasites, special canned food for a few days and some sort of powdered medicine that I can't remember the name of. Oh well it wouldn't have been so expensive if I hadn't gotten his flea/tick medicine too though.
It was decided to be the Orijen since there were no parasites. So I guess ....Hmmm not sure what to do with that food now. Here's hoping this solves our problem! |

We had to do a powdered medicine for Daisy, too, I completely forgot about that. Is it the one that you administer for 5 days, then again a month later for 5 days and then again 2-3 months later for another 5 days? Or is it something else? I also forgot - my friend who has a wheaton terrier put a special powder in her dog's water bowl when she was a puppy, it helped to prevent loose stools. I had never heard of it before but the place she got her puppy recommended it, not sure what it's called.

Maybe it's the 'flavour' of Orijen that you're feeding? We switched Juneau to Ranchland Acana and his little paws and jowls got all red and itchy. We then switched Juneau to Pacifica Acana and his poo got all runny and SERIOUSLY smelly.
So now we are back to Grassland Acana and he's back to normal (YEAH!) Could it also be the protein content in the food? We had tried the 6 fish Orijen and Juneau did not do well on it AT ALL when he was a pup. That's why we switched to Acana, same company, just slightly different makeup. |

The medicine is Panacur he gets it once a day for 3 days...
I might check into the Acana. Eventually. I'll just let him be on the the Nutro Natural for the time being when he gets back on it that is. I think it is the protein content of the Orijen. I guess it's just too much. I've heard pumpkin works really good so I might get some of that. He usually gets about a tablespoon or so of yogurt a couple times a day. Haven't been giving it the past few days though. |

Hi Malcom's mom,
Went through exact same thing with Ace - tried all you have tried - but it wasn't resolved until his third cycle of panacur. Even tho all his tests turned up negative we ended up kind of insisting the vet give us this stuff and lo and behold it worked. But don't despair if it doesn't clear fully until the third cycle. I seem to remember as each cycle approached, it would start to come back. Give at the time of day he is most hungry. Good luck - its great when they finally get past this. |

Ace's Place....what was the interval between cycles ? i have noticed Spike seems to have cycles of loose stools/pudding/mucus and watery ....we have had 3 parasite tests and 1 lab bacteria (expensive !) and all were negative. We thought it was his food and are changing that at the moment with good results so far as of yesterday.
I am waiting to see if he starts up with the loose stools again and try to work out the pattern...i have kept a record of each days poops for the past 3 weeks. yeah, my life is like that now |
