So after 3 parasite tests, 1 in-depth lab parasite test and 1 expensive bacterial lab screen, antibiotics, countless boiled chicken and rice meals, pumpkin, probiotics, yogurt, no treats, different flavors of the existing food and only boiled water to drink we are trying a food change. We were reluctant to do this until we had ruled out everything else....the loose and watery poops always get worse after any stress (grooming/road trip/neuter/kennel trial day) so we were not sure what we were dealing with.
We are going from TOTW lamb to Natural Balance Limited ingredient sweet potato and fish. I have searched and read as much as possible and this one seems to be the most easily digested. I guess we will see how it goes....i plan on adding a small amount tonight and gradually increase over the next week. Spike is back on metronidazole, not sure why if his screen was negative but we know it helped before and the vet prescribed it again. we were at our wits end and would love to have a nights sleep without being up every hour with him. |

Our puppy has been eating Natural Balance limited ingredient sweet potato and venison and does really great on it! She has diarrhea with 6 other foods we had tried and this one was the only one that helped! Hopefully it helps your pup too!

How much does Diego weigh and how old is he ? I am not sure how much to ultimately feed Spike as the values are different to TOTW, he will be 8 months on the 1st Sept and weighs around 21/22 pounds, he is a mini aussie |

Wow, a little guy! Diego is probably around 60 pounds or so now at just over a year and he gets 3 cups a day plus a few treats. We got him when he was about 12 pounds and was at a cup a day then. So maybe 1.5-2 cups for 20ish pounds, depending on his activity level? I know it also depends on the protein content of the food, etc. I think Diego was on Orijen when he was that small, so it might have been even less. I honestly can't remember now!

So after gradually adding the sweet potato and fish kibble bit by bit to his TOTW we finally got onto the full amount and off the TOTW.....Spike didn't seem to like it !!! he was leaving some in his bowl, vomited a couple of times and started with the loose poops again today. Otherwise he is acting normally, playing, running and happy.
I went back to the store and switched the fish with venison, i hope he likes this one ! He has had some rice today with a tsp of cottage cheese and no poops since. |
