So Spike has diarrhea AGAIN and i have been going round in circles with the boiled chicken/rice diet on and off for 5 weeks now. Vet tests normal, antibiotic course finished a while back. He seems to firm up for a couple of days and then goes back to pudding/watery.
No socialising with other dogs, no walks, just running around the back yard... Now i have gone back to Kibble and pumpkin 1 tsp each meal. Is this enough ? he is 22 pounds. i started this yesterday evening and it's still pudding poops and some watery. Pumpkin worked once before but then stopped working and he needed meds....trying to avoid that again. He is in DESPERATE need of grooming tomorrow so i need to get this under control ! also he is scheduled to be neutered next monday... |

I did a mounded tablespoon scoop. I wasn't sure either about how much to give Jasper. He weighed about 28 lbs when we had a stomach issue. I did this 3x a day until the can was empty. He thought it was a treat and got it with each meal and then as a treat mid day ...
Whether that was the right way to do it or not, he was back to normal in about 2 days and has been fine since! Hope your lil one feels better soon !! |

Sadie is on antibiotics right now for her spaying--and she's been getting more than the usual amount of chew treats to keep her occupied post-op--so I've been giving her a big spoonful of pumpkin mixed with yogurt with each meal (2x/day). She loves it.

thanks Jaspers momma and Becka
i have increased the pumpkin to half a tablespoon yesterday evening and this morning, haven't seen any improvement yet.....he was up every 1 to 2 hours overnight. otherwise he is acting fine, hungry, playing, running. i found somewhere online that said 1 tablespoon per 50 pounds of weight, Spike is only 22 pounds .....i'm wondering if i go up any more can i make the diarrhea worse ? oh and i added rice (again) to his breakfast to see if that helps. |
