Default Poodle ears

Brenna's mom is a labradoodle and dad a poodle.
She had her first vet visit with my vet for her 2nd shots and puppy exam.
The vet said she has a slight fungus in her ears, have a cleanser for them but he said she has hair in her ears like a poodle.
He said it can be plucked out or have a groomer do it.
Any suggestions? He pulled a few out with his fingers.
Googled poodle ears and got info there but the sites say I need a homostat.
I can't sent her to the groomer yet as she hasn't had all her shots and he recommended staying home until the shots are done.
TIA for any feed back.

Barski is 75% poodle 25% Lab and he has a lot of ear hair too. He's had problems with his left ear on and off. We pull the hair that we can reach by hand then I use some needle-nose pliers to get down a little deeper. We still have to clean his ears daily. Good Luck.

Yeppers! These doodles can grow some mighty hairs that can cause infection and yeast problems.
Our poor Springer Spaniel was even worse!

Bogart's are not real bad and I don't have to pluck them out. We wait for the groomer to do that.
However, he was swimming in a river last Sunday and developed a yeast infection......so he's now on antibiotic ear drops.
When we stayed at my brother's cottage years ago with our Springer, he had such BAD swimmers ear that he had open sores. It was HORRIBLE!

I think the hemostats are a great thing to have around if your doodle has lots of ear hair.

Louis has nasty hair in his ears too! It never ends... We used to bring him to a groomer every three weeks or so (they'd do his ears only for $4). However, we learned it's better to just do it by ourselves. They would pull and shave away all the hair around the ear, causing even more irritation. We had to bring him to the vet several times because he started scratching himself so much that it would bleed and lead to an infection.

Now I use a hemostat and regular ear powder, which makes it easier to pull. Sometimes I just use my fingers. Make sure to wash your hands and don't do it all at once! Start with a few hairs and let her get used to it.

Also, once in a while we wash Louis' ears with vinegar and water. Since then we'd had no problems with ear infections!

Good luck!

dogs with floppy ears will have a tendancy to get yeast infections..

after a couple of instances with Toby i began weekly ear cleanings..which included rinse with Bio-Groom Ear Cleaner..it does nt contain any water..alcohol and a mild blend of boric and salicylic acid..

then i use a hemostat and pluck out as much hair and peach fuzz i can..a couple time s i pulled out a yukky black hairs a inch long..now they re pretty clean all the time..if his ears ever get wet i ll just use the liquid to dry out the ear..

though Toby does nt particularly like these sessions..he tolerates them pretty well sinse we started it when he 4 mos. old..
