Default Yogurt...?

Malcolm has been having loose stool so I started giving him about a tablespoon or so of plain greek yogurt (Fage) 3 times a day (after each meal). Opinions on this? Too much? Not enough? Not at all? I started it yesterday.

Thanks!

I swear by a spoonful of canned pumpkin whenever Sadie has loose poops--it's like magic! (I learned that from this forum, too!) Let us know how the yogurt works--I always have Greek yogurt in the house so it would be more convenient than pumpkin.

Yogurt seems to be doing the trick so I guess I am doing it right. I always have yogurt too so I thought I'd give it a go. I learned about yogurt and pumpkin being good for their digestive system when my Jesse was sick before (my black lab).

Malcolm LOVES the yogurt. And he's already figured out when he eats his regular food he gets that "treat" afterward He sits and waits for it. I'll check with the vet to see if it's ok to keep giving it.

Hi -

We gave both our dogs a tablespoon of plain yogurt (the kind with "active" cultures - whatever that means) mixed with their food at each meal. Not only did they love it, but they rarely had any problems with loose stools. Of course, it was supposed to cut down on the "gas" produced by the english bulldog - not sure it really worked on that count, although sometimes his farts smelled kind of yogurt-like!

We don't have a labradoodle yet, but I plan to continue the practice when we do.

Clare,
Active cultures mean that their are living, GOOD bacteria in them that provide/lines the flora of the intestines with what it needs to fight bacteria's NOT good.
Humans should take it too .....especially after antibiotics.

we are having lots of issues with Spike and loose stools, the vet has tested it and he is clear for parasites and bacteria so we are trying a probiotic sprinkled over his food. We started today so i am hoping it will work....the pumpkin made him worse.
