Default Training of commands

We recently got a multi gen mini Labradoodle and are just enjoying him so much. Currently, at 9 weeks, he'll "sit" on command and will "shake". We're ready to move on to other commands. We've started working on "off", but it's not been mastered yet. What do you suggest working on next and what command do you use? I think I'd like to start working on "down". How do you recommend going about that?

Thanks!

That's a great question! Mine's at 14 weeks and still hasn't mastered down or off either. He's doing really good at "drop it."

get him to sit. Hold the treat under his nose and slowly lower it to the ground between his front paws. Say "Down" The front end will come down first. keep the treat inside your fist. As soon as his rear end hits the deck treat and praise.

Good luck.

though i d recommend a obedience class to help make the the commands more consistant..and to help you over humps in the training..the next command should be stay..

though you can do home training..the class s keep you honest and on schedule..

Yep! STAY is always a good one and important so the pup doesn't run out the door or get away from you. We got Bogart at 9 weeks as well. I think what you have done so far is tremendous! Bogart had the sit and shake done right away too............STAY is going to be hard at 9 weeks.
I think the new one I'd add is COME! Whatever he's doing, have a treat handy (but don't let him see it) and in a high pitch voice, say his name and then......come, come, come, come, come..........say it fast and really happy! I know this one is contrary to giving a command ONCE which is where you want your dog to be....ONE of, sit, shake, down, stay. But for now, a rapid come in a high pitched voice will be alright. Be sure to praise him highly when he comes.........with a high pitched GOOD BOY.....and a treat.
Good way to do DOWN too, riverkatie.
