Just curious, do any of your Doodles wake up in the AM with green eye boogers? Daisy has one eye that is gross when she wakes in the morning. The vet looked at it and didn't see anything, but gave us eye drops anyway, but they are still gross when she gets up. Could it be allergies? This just recently started.

Toby on occasion will have some eye boogies..but, not green..
out in the country we ve got alot of trees, tall grass..so much so that each day i ll need to water off the yellow pollen on the car..so it was nt surprising when the vet said to expect some runny eyes.. rather than using any eye drop s i ll just put some cold water on a towel and wipe the eyes..and if the day is real bad i ll spray him down with a hose.. |

Spike has black eye boogers most days that i wipe with a wet paper towel, the vet said it was nothing...similar to what we get sometimes. Not sure about green though,....are her eyes bloodshot ? i am wondering allergies too, the pollen levels here are so high, we are all suffering.

Daisy has always had the black crusty eye boogers, the green is what's bothering me, bet you anything it's allergies. Our backyard backs up to a Forest Preserve w/ tall grasses, etc. Just wiping them in the morning has been fine, it's just gross

Bogart only had this green stuff a few times and the vet said it was conjunctivitis (pink eye). He treated him with drops of something for it, and we would hold hot compresses on him each morning and night with a clean washcloth. He loved the compresses! I think it felt good because pinkeye can hurt a little and itch.

During the winter Juneau got an eye infection from sticking his head into one too many snow piles and he started getting a yellowish green goop in his eyes. In the morning is was especially bad and we would have to put a warm compress over his eyes to free his eye lashes. We took him to our vet who said he didn't see anything wrong. After about a week of him still having some gross eye goop, we took him to our friends vet who gave us some eye drops and said to continue with the warm compress and also put some polysporin around his eyes. Within a few days his eyes were back to normal.
Our new vet said that almost all dogs will get some form of eye crud from time to time and that they can range in colour from red to green to black or white. Juneau gets the occassional sleep in his eyes in the morning and it's reddish brown where as my parents dog gets black eye goop. Our vet said it isn't so much the colour of the eye goop that is important but rather the quantity, texture and the actual look of the eye. |

Hey Mel! Daisy's eyes are bad, one of them she can hardly open today so off to the vet we go this afternoon
And I found yet another tick on her a few minutes ago, this one was just caught in her leg fur. The one I found the other day was attached on her side, down towards her belly where her fir gets thinner and whispier. I only noticed it because I was rubbing her belly. Therefore, I rub her entire body every day probably twice per day feeling around for ticks, I don't think I've ever found one on her by just looking, I always stumble upon them when petting her. Ewwwwww!!! My kids have both had them, too, I hate those things and I don't use the word hate often. |

The vet didn't really know for sure why her eyes were so bad, I thought it was just one but in fact both are infected. They did a dye test to see if one or both were scratched and they are not. It's for sure not pink eye, so they are thinking either just a virus of some sort or possibly allergies. They gave us better eye drops than what they gave us a few weeks ago (why didn't they just give us the good stuff the first time???) and her eyes are already looking pretty much back to normal (the drops have antibiotics in them).
As for the ticks, I think she's just getting them from our backyard |

Yes, we did have Daisy groomed/clipped. I forgot to post any pictures! I'll have to do that. When she first came home we weren't so sure about her cut

When Pepper was a puppy, she had recurrent eye infections with green goop in the eyes. Normally, when she doesn't have an infestion, she has black "sleepies". We actually ended up going to a veterinary opthimologist (I didn't even know there was such a thing). It turned out that she had allergies that were resulting in infections. Thought it was ironic that we got a doodle because of my husband's allergies, and then our poor dog has allergies herself! We had to put drops in her eyes on a preventive basis, but at some point she outgrew the problem. We don't use the medicine any more, and she hasn't had an eye infection in more than a year. Still, if I was green discharge again, I would go back to the vet.
