I have almost had enough with this dog and his night time ritual of NOT coming inside! Almost 2 hours it took and the only reason he came in was because I left the door open and had to corral him to go in! Basically picture it similar to a cowboy herding cows in to a pen!
I waited long enough. Does there not come a point when they will get the picture that coming in at night is a good thing??? |

its not something we all have nt experienced at one time or another..they feel its a game, they want you to chase them..is he running around the backyard or in the street?
just don t allow yourself to become so frustrated that you do something you ll regret.. |

It was in the back yard thankfully! He knew it wasnt a game by the end. There was no chasing, no anything. I know 95% that he doesnt come because he associates coming in at night ( when its dark) with going to bed. I do everything to try stop it. But still, almost 2 hours!

try putting a leash on him..atleast that ll make it easier to catch him when he s being difficult..
the other is get him to associate coming in with something more pleasant than going to bed..like his favorite treat.. i use the *bedtime* command..all 3 come and sit at my feet and i give them a piece of turkey dog.. id start out by first catching him and having him heal at your side..say something simple like *bedtime* and lead him in..once in give him a treat..hopefully he ll begin to associate the treat with the time of day, command and his response.. |

Please don't get upset with me because I don't know how much training you have done and I don't want to "assume" you are far from being Alpha.
Having said that, this doodle needs to know who is boss! When we first got Bogart at 9 weeks, he was the Tasmanian Devil! He did the same thing and more. They are very, VERY smart dogs which is why he knows he's coming in to go to bed. Like a spoiled kid, he will fight you. We took him to his first puppy class. This place is good, but it didn't train ME and my husband. See.........that's the key.....WE NEED TO BE TRAINED to know how to get our dogs to listen to us. They must know we're NOT taking any of their BS! It may be costly, but all this has to be explained to a great trainer. I can't help myself when I always speak about Bogart's 3rd trained, the Russian Dog Whisperer, Vladae Roytapel. He came to our house and in his broken English, looking and sounding like Borat.........especially had to train me first to know how to be ALPHA! Vladae speaks, what he calls "doglish". He talks to the dog like a mother of the pup and even after ONE session, Bogart was catching on and so was I. My husband had a lot of learning to do as well, because I had already been through this with my Bouvier years ago but needed to be refreshed. Within 5 days........we had a different, well behaved dog who came when called and other things..........yet knows when he can cut loose. Have you done any classes yet? You really need to address this not only for your family, but for the dogs safety.
