Hi everyone,
Need some help again! My six month old, CeCe, is having continuous bouts of diarrhea and I am trying everything I can to keep her balanced. She has been on a diet of chicken and rice with sometimes pumpkin added, but I am worried about getting her all of the proper vitamins and nutrients. Every time I try to reintroduce kibble the issues flare up again. Her vet has her on science diet large breed puppy lamb and rice. I would be happy to change her food if I knew what to change to, but I also have a problem of having to drive two hours to shop at even a petsmart so my choices are somewhat limited. If anyone has any ideas about kibble or something I can add to the chicken and rice to complete her diet I would really appreciate your input. Thanks so much, GiGi! Love all your doodles & mine! |

We battled lots of diarrhea with Daisy when she was that age. We had her on boiled chicken and rice for what felt like too long, and it didn't improve her stools much. And the vet also thought she was not getting full enough. We ended up having to put her on a Rx dog food - I don't recall the exact name & brand, but it was an actual bland dry dog food that we bought at our vet. It was pricey but worth it. Is the puppy lamb & rice you have now considered a bland diet? You might need a real and true bland diet food for your puppy if it's not. I recall the bag actually stating on the front cover "bland diet". It absolutely did the trick. And Daisy ate only this, we stopped the chix and rice when we bought the Rx bag of food. We had to keep her on it until her stools improved, then we slowly started mixing it in with her regular food. If your vet doesn't have something, maybe they can order it for you or you can ask what to get and order it online so you don't have to drive. If it's Rx, Petsmart wouldn't have it anyway, at least I don't think they would.
Good luck, puppy diarrhea is no fun for you or your dog!!! |

Thanks so much Daisy's Mom! i will call my vet to see if she can recommend a bland diet dog food. CeCe does fine as long as she eats only chicken and rice diet, thankfully she is not quite as sensitive to food as your puppy, but she does have issues whenever anything changes: travel, stress, kibble,or any of the many fear problems she has. We are starting a new obedience training class with our local kennel club this week so am hoping that we can help her with socialization and overcoming some of her stress. I think that she is just sensitive ALL over. But she is also such a love All over!! Thanks again!

i think most of us have had to deal with runny stools one time or another with our doodles..
for a new kibble..id look into a white fish kibble, free from grains.. get a small bag and add maybe a handful to her normal meal a few day s and see what happens.. |
