Hello,
I am a first time dog owner and have a 12 week old labradoodle named Bella. We have had her for less than one week but notice that she does not have lots of energy like most puppies. She loves to sleep and doesn't seem so playful. Does that seem weird? Does she just need some time getting used to us? |

Toby was just like that..though he play d with the neighborhood kids and dogs, i was concern d about his lack of energy..this was at 14 wks..
they re still developing..physically, mentally and their temperment.. my Toby, physically seem d normal..mentally, he was alert..but, his temperment was pretty low level..happy to play a bit then sack out on the couch.. just make sure she s getting 3 or 4 meals a day with a high quality kibble.. a short walk 3 times a day..and all will be good..his personality will grow on you.. if his temperment still low key d by time he s 6 mos. ..you may consider him becoming a working dog.. have you gone in for her first physical yet?..if not you could let the vet know of your concerns.. |

We got our Daisy at 14 weeks and I recall her being very bouncy and playful, but still slept a ton, kind of a like a new baby. The first week or so she snuggled on my lap and in my neck like a baby. Literally. I didn't expect her to be so sleepy! I also recall the vet telling me we were still in the "honeymoon" stage and after being with us for a few weeks she would be a very different dog and yup, our vet was right! Daisy was good but she suddenly just like "woke up" and was a crazy puppy. For sure talk to your vet, but you might see a totally different dog in a week or two once she gets more used to you and is more comfy in her new home. But, maybe it's just her temperament and she could be a working dog or you could volunteer with her at schools or nursing homes, etc. that would be so neat! I'm sure your Bella is just fine but talk to your vet for some reassurance

Are one of her parents a Yellow Lab? Yellow Labs, like Bogart's mom, can be pretty laid back. Plus, when they are growing, they do sleep a whole lot!
Talk to the vet, but my gut feeling is that Bella is just giving you some "time out" before the real puppy comes out!

I had the same concern then the vet asked "does he seem lazy." He totally did just as Bella seems. Then he said "reason I ask is because he has a heart murmur." I freaked out and got paranoid about all his behaviors including the sleeping. Today the vet declared his heart murmur gone and he is still pretty lazy. Moral of story, don't get too worked up about this as I did. We chose a doodle because of their amazing temperaments so just enjoy the quiet while you can, I do now.
