Can anyone tell me which is better? I know there have been topics posted about food but I was really interested in these two.
I have him on BB large puppy, and for some reason my mother brought me Orijen large puppy today. I have read numerous sites and they go back and forth depending on which site for nutrition and quality. I was hoping to try Chicken soup, but they were out. Apparently Orijen is higher in "real" meat, but I cant make heads nor tails of the nutritional mumbo jumbo crap. I just more confused more and more. |

i ve tried both..Toby did nt eat the Blue Buffalo..but, did like Origen..
though the cost of the Blue Buffalo is less..Toby needs to eat a 3rd less of the Origen to get about the same nutrition..the Origen has a much higher protein and fat content..similar to Origen is Evo.. if Toby was nt so picky..he only eats about 2 cups a day..i d probably look into something similar to Blue Buffalo.. |

Really? It says on the chart 4-5 for bb, an 5-5.5 for orijen. Winston seemed to like the bb thats for sure! I have heard others say that their dogs weren't too fussy about bb too! Either of thrm are better than the garbage he was on in october when we got him!

Toby is nt a real active dog..Though he works 3 time s a week now..and takes 3 walks a day..he s more of a couch potatoe when home..
I used this chart from the Origen site..38% protein, 17% fat Orijen for a dog 77-100lbs it recommends 2 1/4 to 3 1/2 cups.. and BB chicken recipte..is 34% protein, 15% fat..and recommends 3 3/4 to 4 1/2 cups per day.. BLUE Buffalo Wilderness - Natural Evolutionary Chicken Diet for Dogs – Grain Free Toby just prefers the shape of the Origen over BB.. Origen is just one of the products i keep in the house..i have Bil-jac, Evo, Diamond Naturals and couple others that i rotate to keep Toby from being bored with his taste.. |

ok that is different from what is on the bag of the Large breed puppy.
People say to do a transition for the dog food, however, Winston has no problems going from one to another. Im thinking he is relaxing more and more as days go by. Boundless energy, almost to the point of walking too much. I do like the higher protein in the puppy compared to BB, all I can do is try it and see if he likes it! |

the protein content of BB is more than enough for a growing puppy..if my Toby would eat it, he d be on it now..
actually we ve got to be careful that the pup does not grow too quickly.. the feeding information provided previously was for adult dog food and not puppy.. how old is your puppy? and how big is he now?..the nutrional needs of a pup are much different from an adult.. |

i can understand the trouble trying to get the weighed at home...when he was younger i d just get on the scale myself..then lifted Toby and stood on the scale and just got the differance..now have to swing by the vets office to get to use their scale..
looks like Winston is going to be a big boy..he s about the same size as Toby at the same age..his height should be at max. at 1 yr..then he ll add on another 10 lbs by 2yrs..that s the rule..but, Toby continued to grow and is now closer to 90lbs.. at 8 mos. you can now change over to a adult phase dog food..there s a better selection of foods out there..as they near adulthood, their nutrional needs will be less.. if Winston is a picky eater you could stay with the high protein, fat kibble..but, if he like volume, check out the Innova..too much protein and fat is not all that good unless your dog is highly active..IMO, 25% protein, 17% fat is plenty for maintenance..maybe even less if he s a good eater... lindamarie made a good comment on another thread..that i believe 16% protein is sufficient for maintenance.. |
