Hi - I'm just new on this forum - so glad to have found you! I have a 4 month old labradoodle who is eating his poop - have tried pineapple bits and the substance from the vet but nothing is helping - I find this a nasty habit - does anyone have any suggestions?? Is this normal - will he outgrow this? He is on a grain free diet - I'm also trying to change him over from one food to another and he now has diarrhea! I'm using the 75% old 25% new rule for two days now. He is eating all his food so he likes the new food. Should I be concerned? Thank you!

first it would be wise to determine if the problem is a health issue..if not,it could be just a bad habit learn d from his mother..spending alot of time with the mother while she s cleaning him up after himself could have triggered a undesired behavior learned in his formalative period..ie birth to
8 weeks old.. more likely i would make sure he s getting enough food..if not it could lead to a hunger pangs, vitamin and mineral deficiency..in a extreme case a thyroid problem.. another thing is undigested food in his poo..if he s not getting enough food..he s going to go looking for some ![]() there are suppliments that make the poo bitter to the taste..have you tried any?..since he s been doing this for sometime now..i d look into the nutrional side of the problem.. try free feeding, adding extra food at each sitting..or increasing the number of meals each day..i ve seen food driven dogs, mostly terriors that are hard to break of this habit.. Poop eating is a sign of Coccidia, take in a fecal to the vet, make sure you tell them that you want to specifically check for coccidia, its hard to see on a fecal unless they are experienced,,
they will prescribe you Albon for the pup for about 2weeks that will clear it up if thats not it, then if you go to Pet Meds | Dog Supplies | Pet Supplies | Pet Products | Pet Supply they have a tablet you can give that will normally stop it,, Feed a good quality food, i feed Lifes Abundance Premium Natural Dog Food and Cat Food I agree that free feeding is the best choice for any dog, however if you are only feeding twice a day then to avoid chance of bloat there is a way to get this started safely ,, let me know if you are interested in that , i will be happy to walk you thru,, email me not on here a whole lot,, or I am on facebook Doodlesville Doodles | Facebook |

Thanks everyone for your replies - sorry I haven't been on for awhile - Beckham is still eating his poop and I've tried the pills from the vet - I haven't had his feces tested and that's my next move - maybe then we'll find out what's causing this nasty habit! Thanks for that tip Nancy.
