don t forget the mosquitos..they can spread heartworm disease..

in our household, we use Advantix applied once a month..to cut cost i usually shop ebay and compare the prices to Petmeds..

if we plan any trip s into the high country i ll spray some Adams into their coats and rub it in..good for ticks, flees and mosquitos..

we have nt had alot of luck with some of the cheaper applications..some smell real bad, are oily for the longest time..in some cases will cause a allergic reaction..

early on i tried the Hertz..and it smell d up the entire house for a week..

id recommed taking your doodle into the vet soon after its arrival for its initial visit..at that time you could ask for any recomendations of products..

we are taking him to the vet on friday.....i have a few questions for them lol.

I think the breeder uses Revolution . Any experience with this one ?

I am a bit concerned about my 2 young children and the topical applications....especially if they smell bad. I hate the thought of chemicals on the puppy but i know some things are necessary. We use organic and natural products for the children as much as we can, i will have to research (again) for ideas for the pup.

Revolution is a wide spectrum topical application..and i will suspect it ll work just like the Advantix..

since we no longer have children in the home anymore..it s not a concern..but, i do have concern for myself..

the advantix will leave a small oily spot once it s been applied..but, after a day it dry s and there s no remaining oily spot and does not leave a smell..

i did notice when i first started using topicals..that the oil would bleed and leave a light stain thru the coat on his backside..but, after thining out the undercoat..and making sure the drop s find the skin, most of the staining disapeared..

i ve noticed some dog s are allergic to the Adams..but, its worth a try..as long as you dog wash, its good for 45 days..

i only use it when were out in the fields..or when mosquito s are present..mosquito s carry the heart worm disease..between the advantix and Adams i feel confident the mosquito s will stay away..

in the evenings, during our nightly walks.. i ll even spray some on myself and rub it in..i ll even use it on my clothing to keep the flys off..but, black flies im not too sure about..

the adams spray liquid is alcohol base..so when it drys there none of that sticky feeling as when i ve used other anti pest repellents when i go up to yosemite..in yosemite the mosquito s will eat you alive if you don t have some kind of protection on..

I too was concerned about using Advantix, Revolution etc... I have three children and my youngest is three and she and Rocky are the same height - she walks around with her arm around his neck at the exact spot where you would put the Advantix.

The family he came from that were trying to find him a home had four kids and they were a natural/organic family and they used food grade diatamaceous earth on their dogs and they swore by it. She told me where to get it - online or else at a particular feed store that is about an hour drive from me.

So, I tried a more local feed store and they had it - but wasn't food grade. So, I finally drove out to the feed store that she suggested and got some. The guy there told me he puts a teaspoon of it in his coffee each morning and suggested even sprinkling it over Rocky's food. It has worked wonders. We've had Rocky since November and he's had no fleas. We also dust it over our carpets occasionally and across the back porch. I haven't sprinkled it on his food yet - but I might - lol.

I just know it's important that you buy the kind that is food grade... and it's safe to humans, animals, birds etc... but it basically dehydrates and kills insects. Try googling to get more info on it... and places to buy it.
