Just curious, how often do you have your labradoodle groomed? We've only taken our Daisy one time and I have to say it was interesting! She came home looking like a poodle and it took awhile for it to grow back to how we liked her to look

Winston went when he was 6 months for the first time at the beginning of January. I took him today for his ears and sanitary. I should have got his paws done, but I forgot to ask. Im going to take him in the next few weeks for another cut

i was also so frustrated with Toby s first and second groom as well..so much so that i ve refused to take him to a groomer again..
to this day, almost 3 yrs later he has nt had a visit to groomer.. instead i use a grooming tool called a Coat King..it keeps his coat thin d out from his undercoat and allow s for the main coat to grow out..daily brushing and combing s keep his coat at just the right length.. for his face i ll use a 3 inch blunt ended grooming siccisor to cut around his mouth, under the chin and even around the eyes.. one thing about cutting around the eyes is that he needs to hold still..use your fingers as a guide..like a comb, and cut the excess..after a few try s and funny looking cuts you ll get the idea Last edited by deepnite10; 02-21-2011 at 10:53 PM. |

The first time I took our doodle to be groomed, I walked in to pick him up and there was a standard poodle standing there and I about burst into tears. I thought it was our Hurley. I talked with the groomer and gave VERY specific instructions on how he should be groomed. Then they brought out our bouncing Hurley, and I was relieved and thrilled. They did a great job. You just have to be very, very specific with what you want them to do. If you do that, and they still do a poodle cut, I'd for sure bolt from that place.
This is an article linked from the breeder where we purchased Hurley, it is a grooming checklist if you will: http://www.labradoodlebaby.com/Art-Groomer%20Inst.pdf And here is a picture of our Hurley right after his first grooming. He was about 6 months old at the time.

Thanks so much everybody! My hubby wants to try to trim around Daisy's face ourselves, we may give it a whirl this weekend. But thank you so very much BradSS for the link and picture! This is wonderful info to have. Your groomer did a beautiful job on Hurley, I'm impressed.
Thanks again! |

Yep! Gotta hide them stickman legs! SHEEEESH!
When Bogart runs the beach in the summer, usually his legs only get wet. He looks like one of the houses on stilts! Deepnite...........I don't know why, but it wasn't up until recent that I learned you had 2 other dogs! Very cute!

We have Oliver bathed and tidied about every 6 weeks. That just involves bathing, trimming around the face and feet, trimming the nails, cleaning out ears, and a good brushing. He only get a full haircut about twice a year now.

Go to the site "Don't Poodle my doodle" and check off how you'd like the trim to be and give it to your groomer. I have my ald groomed twice a year and I sometimes will clip small hairs hanging in the eyes myself.
