WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!
If you do a search, you will find that this question has been asked a zillion times. What did the breeder say? Although a whole lot depends on the pups mom & dad, sometimes they get bigger or stay smaller. Bogart's mom was a champion English Yellow Lab.......Rosie was stocky and medium size. Bogart seems to have her body. His dad, Louie, was a small standard poodle. Based on that, the breeder said Bogart would weigh in at about 45-55LBS. He is now 70LBS at 2 years old.

The genes behind the dogs can have a big influence. My Tuesday's mom is a lot shorter than her. Her dad too. Tuesday is 80#. There was a brother in her litter that went 105lbs!
I bred her the first time to a 90-100 standard poodle. His dad was about 55#, his mom, 65#. His mom had big dogs in her lines.... The pups in Tuesday's first litter ranged from 62-100# I was told that if both parents have big dogs in their backgrounds, the genes can line up & produce pups that grow bigger than the parents. This can carry a few generations back too!! And to your question.....I believe the formula is double their weight at 14 wks & add 10lbs? It worked for Tuesday....Marley was supposed to be 80#, but is only 62lbs... Hope this helped...

Saw this on another site about predicting size in mixed breeds....
At 2 months old a pup is 1/4 of Adult size At 4 months.......1/3 Adult size At 6 months.......2/3 Adult size At one year........Full grown Now I have to pull out my dogs' records & see how accurate it is....

This seems to be a good standard for anticpated size:
AT THE AGE OF 2 MONTHS: MULTIPLY THE WEIGHT BY 4 AT THE AGE OF 3 MONTHS: MULTIPLY THE WEIGHT BY 3 AT THE AGE OF 4 MONTHS: MULTIPLY THE WEIGHT BY 2 Puppies go through a rapid growth spurt from 2 months to 4 months....but you should see some slowing down by the age of six months. Aparantly puppies can sometimes exceed the size of both their parents. Also, just because a puppy is small compared to the remainder of the litter is not necessarily an indication of its adults size. |

since we had two dogs already we wanted a doodle that would be more on the lighter side of the standards..55-65lbs..
we found Toby to be one of the last of the litter cuz he was the smallest..i dont know..maybe i felt sorry for him cuz he was the runt..*AND HE WAS SO CUTE*.. His mom was a 55lb F1b and papa was a 70lb standard poodle..so i figured if he got real big he d end up just under dad s weight.. when he came home at 14 weeks also..he was 27 lbs..so i felt at the time he would nt get too big..instead, this runt of the litter is now 90lbs..im just wondering how big his siblings end d up..

I love this question, because I, too, had wondered when my doodle was growing rapidly. I put this question in when he was about 2-3 months. Cruiser is now 10 months and has been holding his weight at 30 pounds since he was 4 months. He is 18 inches tall. He dad (multi labradoodle) is 28 pounds and is 16 inches tall and his mom (apricot poodle) is 17 pounds and is 14 inches tall. I really think Cruiser is done growing (any taller or heavier, that is). He may fill out a little but I think he will be a 30 pound dog, basically. I'm no expert: just a new and proud labradoodle owner.

Hi CindynEarl,
My dog is now 5 months and she only weighs 30 lbs!!! I'm a little concerned because her mom was 60 lbs and dad was 65 lbs. She eats well, shes happy, we take her on walks, she appears to be healthy but she doesn't seem like she is going to be as big as her parents. Any ideas? |

greetings everyone new to the site and been reading alot now,now here is my concern,I don't know if I'll make sense here, but when i got Bruno, he's a pup of a STANDARD POODLE and mom is labradoodle, he is so skinny the breeder told me that they are feeding them KIRKLAND chicken and rice adult (btw he was born 10/20/11 so i got him when he was 12 weeks) I know he was skinny I can feel his bone and we gave him a quick bath you can definitely see his ribs and shoulder, so I was really trying to bulk him and we already tried Blue Buffalo LArge breed PUPPY food, and cooked him some BROWN RICE and mixed it with some chicken liver and sweet potato, but every time he eats he poops, so now I got a SCALE and he weights 18lbs at 14weeks and started him with INNOVA puppy food, still mixing with evangers canned dog food, the breeder told me he's a standard labradoodle, I dont know if he's f1 or what but he's adorable, I just wanted to know if what should i do to bulk him up and make sure he's not weak or something any inputs will be much appreciated.
thanks. |
