My little guy, Archer is 18 weeks and weighs 25lbs. His mom is 48 and his dad is 42 - but our vet is predicting he will be 55-65. He has gigantic paws and (apparently) very thick bones. He has been gaining 1-2lbs a week since we got him and doesn't appear to be slowing down.

My doodle was 16lbs at 4mo. She is really bony. The vet described her as lean but said she is perfectly fine. He is more concerned that she is consistently gaining 1-2 lbs per month. I think if your vet things your pup is fine there is no reason to try to bulk it up.

As for size, we wondered too! And I also asked that question on this forum.
Anyway they say to double the age at 16 weeks and then add 5-10 lbs. Our Katey was 16 lbs at 16 weeks and now at just over a year old she is 34lbs. So I would say that this rule seems to work. She is still filling out though and I'm predicting that by age 2 she will be about 37-38 lbs. She has skinny poodle-y legs and is now filling out in the chest. Hopefully this helps you predict the weight. |

I really thought Bruno was really skinny, we can see his ribs ,his hip bone, really concerned, but after putting him into a innova puppy food, he gained almost a pound in 4 days and he's more active, and I can say I am more comfortable with his gaining weight.
I think he's getting big now...thanks guys. I think the large breed puppy food is really good but since I don't really have an idea how big bruno's dad and mom, I am not sure if he's big so I switch him to just regular puppy food. thanks for your input guys. |
