Default Smelly Doodle?

It is the strangest thing, Lucy smells funky when she first comes in the house from being outside. It happens every time! It only lasts like a minute or so, then the smell is gone. I don't even know how to describe the smell, but it's kind of a musty weird outside smell. Anyone else ever experience this with their labradoodle?

That's strange! If you search one of my threads it's titled something like Doodles don't stink!
Yet, there are times in the summmer where I can actually smell the smell you are speaking to. Sounds like Lucy may have a stinky place to lie or roll. Bogart will go out and roll in the dry grass.....or sometimes a wet spot and may have that stink on him for awhile too.
Watch what she does while outside to see if that spot exists!

Hi Folks,

I am the proud Papa of a lovable labradoodle. I am new to the forum and was hoping someone could help.

My 4 month old pup has a stinky rear end. I have bathed her tail end twice in the last week thinking some residual "number two" has stuck there. Today after gaging from the smell I washed just her backside again. An hour later I asked my wife to check and she said she smelled like shampoo. I just check myself, (3 1/2 hours post bath) and she smelled FOUL!!!

I am pretty sure it is not anal glads but not positive. I am pretty sure it is not gas because it does not disapate. I really do not go around smelling my dogs rear. We just get close or pick her up and you can not help but notice. The rest of her smells fine, it is just her rear.

Is this normal for these labradoodles or is there some problem.

I know there will be a temptation to post a lot of wise cracks, (pardon the pun), but I am serious. There is something rotten in Denmark.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!

That's all it could possiby be is anal glands and they need to be expressed.
I'd say take her to the vet or groomer and have this done asap.
This is normal for any dog and it does happen every now and then.
Also, sometimes there is a buildup of their coat in the rear and they are in dire need of a potty cut.
We all know that foul smell......thankfully, it can be resolved.

Thank you.

I gave her a potty cut last week. I will take her to the vet to get them expressed, (gross)

SITTING DUCK i am glad you're taking your doodle to the vet who might be able to help you out and keep us posted.

LucyWhitePaw.....i'd see what shrubs etc your doodle might get into.
Junipers and Boxwood can smell like Cat pee etc sooooooo there might be a plant or shrub your doodle rubs agains thus the smell dissapates after a few minutes. I really have no idea what else could cause this. OH i do knwo soil that has a funky odor can come from ants that house aphids.

I did landscaping etc for 20yrs

its no big deal to express the butt glands..i just make a V with two fingers and rub along side the anal opening..a good massage will express the glands and any fluid will come out at the next pooping

if this is persistant problem you might want to consider the removal of the glands..a good indicator of a infection is when you see your doodle start doing the butt crawl across the carpet *now that s yuk*

i do notice a slight doggie smell on Toby when he get s wet..not as bad as the other dogs..but, it is present then goes away when he dry s off..

if your really concerned from a health issue..you could ask the vet..labs are known to have a smelly coat..esspecially when they get wet..in this case your not going to have many options but to put up with it..
