Hello,
My 7 month old Labradoodle named Ricky has developed a pink/white spot on his nose over the past 2 months. It first started as a small white spot which I thought was some kind of scar caused by him itching it. Now it has become a bigger spot and I'm worried. I have been doing research and the web has been worrying me even more. My search linked it to a dog version of Lupus and all kinds of other stuff. Please someone clarify it's normal. Below is a picture attachment. Thanks, Najy

Is it a growth or just discoloration?
Here's a discussion on 'snow nose', with a good link: re: pink nose or black nose?

[QUOTE=utchuckd;171041]Is it a growth or just discoloration?
Here's a discussion on 'snow nose' Hello There, I have been reading about snow nose and people are saying the nose turns light brown in color in the winter... I'm in Florida heat and I don't really think it's snow nose. Did you see the attached picture of my dog's nose? By the way it's like a discoloration kind of. It's smooth and doesn't feel like it shouldn't be there. I just want his cute black nose to go back to the way it was. |

NaJy! WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!
Have you spoke to the vet about this? Reading the web for answers can make you crazy! People do the same things when we try to self-diagnose. ![]() It probably just a change in pigmentation as Ricky has grown. I know what ya mean about the cute little black nose! See...ya even had to pull his muzzle hair back to show us! Now.........let's see a WHOLE picture of your handsome dood!

This is my son, Ricky. UPDATE! I took Ricky to the vet and it turns out that when I go to work for a few hours and leave him in his crate, he has been rubbing and scraping his nose on the metal. So the vet gave me some ointment similar to Neosporin but for dogs and said it will go away. Since he is house broken, I have put his cage in the garage and will never use it again. I was going to ask if you used a crate...we traveled to a friend's in Minneapolis once and used her crate which was purely metal, no soft covering. While we were gone, he scraped up his nose to the point of bleeding...but it's all healed up now...
![]() Bleedy Nose dog No more bleedy nose...although his nose went from black to pink. ![]() BTW, Ricky & Ziggy could be brothers! Last edited by ziggymom; 08-10-2010 at 01:18 PM. Reason: Wrong pic attached |

OH MY GOSH! They sure could!!!
The only difference I can see is Ricky has big "Boot" paws and his ears are lighter in color. Other than that they look like they came from the same parents! Wish you lived near me here in Florida. I'm sure Ricky would highly appreciate a com-padre. |

OMYGOSH! I never thought of the crate! I am sooooo happy to hear that there is nothing wrong and there's a simple solution! May I share a story about my Wiemeraner/Lab, TOBY? This dog was the most unbelieeeeevable dog I had ever had! There were so many ways he was so GOOD and yet so many ways so BAD! He hated being alone and he ate everything in sight or ripped everything up. It turned out that I had to buy him the largest crate available! ![]() One day, I got home from school and Toby had managed to get out of the crate! The crate was stainless steel and thick. For hours, he worked on separating the bars of steel with his nose........and managed then to open the hook and get out!! His nose was a disaster and we had to take him to the vet. He had a permanent BUMP in the middle of his muzzle for the rest of his life! I have soooo many TOBY stories!

Toby trained naturally. I never had to have a gate, took him everywhere off leash.......he never left my side. Oh! And check this out........he bit my abusive, crazy ex! Not bad, but enough to put the fear of Toby in him! Yep, he elbowed me through an open car window and gentle Toby went for his arm through a jacket! Toby just sensed BAD people! So, after that, he would always say when he came to pick up my son.."Keep that Weimerhausen or whatever he is away from me!" He stuttered and didn't know a Weimaraner from a Weimerhausen? ![]() Toooooooo funny!

OH DAVE's heniz 57 dog TAZ (he looked like a yellow lab with about 30 other mixes in hi) used to MOVE a CEMENT BLOCK with his paws and nose to get up and out of the backyard kennel ONE TIME he took off half his nose......OMG i almost freaked out i'd put polysporin on it daily and it healed quite well BUT i felt soooo bad for TAZ, but i learned that was TAZ hahaaaaaaaaa what a character, the dog warden also got quite a bit of $$$ from us as TAZ escaped and the local elementary school kids all knew him as did the local store and gas station and few neighbors TAZ was 10yrs old and you'd swear he was only 1 to 2yrs old and he was the skinniest dog regardless that he ate more than food than any dog i'd ever seen. DAVE would get sooooo mad TAZ escaped, i'd worry we drive around in dead of winter at 16 below zero .....TAZ was in a neighbor's house being given steak, bones and tons of spoiling hahhahaaaaaaaaa I learned to laugh when TAZ escaped he was the dog that just LOVED people and kids ......it was that simple. THE BEST part people loved was seeing me find TAZ and my teenage son going home on the road holding TAZ's leash as my son skateboarded hom while TAZ ran the mile back home hahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ohhhhhh TAZ was something else and my son had a blast
