Default Dry coat with short patch

hi ...

Am hoping someone can give some advice about my puppy's coat. Scruffy is now 17 weeks old, and has a dry coat. I've started giving him oil once a day to try to help with this, but as yet it's too early to tell if it's working (the short patch appeared before I started with the oil). Other than that I haven't changed his diet at all, and he is on the same dry food that he has had since we first got him, with fresh meat occassionally.

As you can see from the photo, he has a short patch of fur across his back. My vet has looked him over, and said that there is no inflamation of the skin under the patch. He didn't seem too concerned.

I don't use a drip on flea treatment as I have had terrible results with these on previous dogs, so I know that's not causing it. I'm hoping it's just wear and tear from playing with my parent's dog.

Otherwise, he is healthy and very active ... and getting BIG!

If anyone has had similar coat issues, I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
Leeann

OOOOOOOH! So CUTE!!
If the vet isn't concerned, it sounds like everything will be fine!
Others have posted on here regarding this problem, so you might want to do a keyword search.
Don't be afraid of some of the posts and answers.....as long as your vet seems to be on top of it, my assumption is that all will be well and it will grow back!

Thanks for the reply Linda.

I think you are right ... hopefully when his adult coat comes through it will disappear

We just adore Scruffy ... he is such a character and a very affectionate boy!

wow that is baffling that patch of fur.......but for now if the vet says all is okay then do a wait and see. I mean if he's eating , sleeping and going potty fine etc then i wouldn't be concerned.
If it is anything over time you'd know

HE SURE IS CUTE!!! i lovvvvvvvvv chocolate mmmmmmmm

Just an update ... I've come to the conclusion that Scruffy's coat is changing!

The short patch of fur has spread right down the middle of his back and the tops of his legs. Most of his long fuzzy coat is disappearing in little tufts, and he has been left with shorter fur underneath.

Having never had a labradoodle before, I have no idea at what age they loose their puppy coat - and unfortunately there is so much conflicting info on the web - but it certainly appears that a change in coat is what is happening.

He is definatley a very healthy and active puppy ... and still getting bigger by the day

you could try a coat conditioner with natural oil s in it..but, try a Omega
supplement or fish oil..

as for that patch..without seeing up close..it could be like my Toby s..

he has a couple natural crease s that run across his back...one at the neck and another across the shoulders..when his coat get s longer its barely noticeable..

lindamarie will know what i mean..its like when you take the service vest off and the coat is matted down and you ve got to brush it back out..
