Milo came on Monday night and has been a perfect delight. (Exhausting, yes! But in general a good puppy) I had forgotten how much watching a baby (canine and human) needs. I have a few questions, since we know nothing about dogs.
1.He seems to sleep a lot though, and sometimes refuses to get up and play, just laying there and dozing. How much sleep do they need? 2.Would he be lethargic if I were underfeeding him? I give him one cup of kibble a day, divided into three portions. He is about 9 pounds, wondering if that is enough. 3.He also seems to find it hard on our hardwood floor and keeps slipping and sliding. Does that mean he needs nail clipping? Attached a picture of our little fluffball! |

If you re having any concern s about health issues, the best advise i could give at this time is to have a complete exam at your vet.. How old is Milo?..young pups tend to sleep alot more..eat, sleep and poop is generally all they do.. I also, fed Toby 3 times a day..all he would eat..and would nt worry about him getting too fat at a early age..as they get older more exercise is usaully the cure for pot bellies.. Young pups do have balance issues..as they get older and stronger they ll get more sure footed..paws could be smooth right now and it ll get slippery on smooth surfaces..again, check with your doggie doc. befor clipping nails at a early age.. |

HI and CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES puppies will sleep alot and need the rest in order to grow etc. this is sooooo normal, some puppies need to be put down for a nap like peanut whereas MAX did't he'd just doze off alot. like a baby to toddlers ....naps are common. i had one doodle puppy say got up 6:30am then would take a nap by 10:30am, then again another one around 2 or 3pm and then after dinner would take a short nap around 7pm and go to bed by 9:30pm but he also was quite active with us and my other doodles when awake. As we're are all different so are our puppies, if your puppy seems alert, bright eyed, healthy, etc then your puppy may be one that like to sleep more. JUSt as some puppies sleep through the night and others take some time before they do. IF your puppy isn't lethargic when awake i wouldn't worry , also pooping and peeing, eating good too. keep us posted and WHAT A CUTIE PIE!!!

By the looks of that ADORABLE picture....Milo looks really healthy to me!
Oh YES! Pups will sleep a whooooole lot! I love how when they're puppies, they just konk out when least expected........in your arms, in a corner, in the middle of playing! Anywhere! You didn't say how old, but at 9 LBS, he looks to be around 9 or 10 weeks old? ![]() So, all this is very normal. Have you see the vet yet for his first exam? CONGRATULATIONS! You have one sweet little doodle there!

I took him to the vet who laughed and said he might even take a nap halfway thru a game. He is a sweetie pie altho he seems to be part cow, he gets more excited by grass than a liver treat. |

I really don't want to nitpick here, but I think we requested pics, plural, not a pic. So if you don't mind I think a few more puppy pics are in order.
Btw, jealous of the puppy breath, not jealous of the house training!

So Milo (so far, fingers crossed) continues to be an easy going, happy pup! He does mouth us, and we are hearing different opinions (are there as many theories on puppy raising as puppies in the world?) Some say let him mouth you to learn bite inhibition, others say touching with teeth is an absolute no, and we are a bit confused. He had his second set of shots, and the vet said to take him on walks on the sidewalk, and not to get too stressed about not taking him out, as we live in such an urban area, most dogs are up to date on shots and he should be ok.
He is 10 weeks old now, weighs probably about 10 to 11 pounds, and has had one glorious playdate with a friend's French bulldog. I had no ideas puppies chewed on each other quite so much, and with no offense taken! We meet a trainer next week, and start puppy kindergarten in September, but he has learned sit and off. We are hand feeding him his kibble for now, and he has learned to leave the kibble alone till we say Take it! Not too enthusiastic about walks, sits on his rump and looks forlorn until we coax him a few feet with a treat, and then again a sit-down |
