Okay, so we've had lots of issues with Winnie getting diarrhea without any reason that we can find. We've had her on Iams Holistic food since January and things have been great for the most part. She poops about three times a day, and sometimes it gets a little soft, but no diarrhea. But in the last four or five weeks she has randomly thrown up in the morning. Just bile, and afterwards she's totally fine. I think sometimes it's from taking her to the beach where she gets too much sand or salt water, and sometimes it's because she was out chewing sticks in the yard the day before. But she didn't do either of that yesterday, and she still threw up this morning. Can you think of any reasons?
I'm not particularly worried, since it's so random and she eats right afterwards and is acting normally, but I'd hate for her to be uncomfortable if I can fix it. She doesn't get treats....just ice cubes sometimes, and she drinks out of the hose outside sometimes when I'm watering plants. Is it possibly because she's hungry? Or acid reflux? There was a little bit of grass in it this morning, but I don't know if she ate the grass last night because she wasn't feeling well, of if she threw up because she ate the grass. lol Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks! |

Hmmm.......sounds like she has a sensitive stomach. When do you last feed her at night? Perhaps an empty stomach makes her sick so that by morning, she vomits.
![]() I'm sorry, but I don't recall how old she is. I know that with pups, you don't want to feed them too late at night for potty training purposes, but maybe, if she's older, she may need a later feeding. Have you spoke to the vet?

i felt like that all day..must be too much coffee and nothing solid in
my stomach..the a couple of tums with a few crackers.. my saluki gets that way..sometime s i ll see a puddle of white bile and though i don t worry much about it..i also, give her a tums as well.. then for a couple of meals i ll add some white rice and it seems to eliminate the vomiting..for runny poo s i ll also add extra white rice to there meals..there s no nutrition in it but, i does have alot of starch to deal with too much stomach acid.. |

HOW old is your doodle......as many doodles as puppies can do this as mine both did at one time as this has been discussed on and off for about 4yrs on this site.
sometimes giving them just a handful of kibble before bedtime can aid in alleviatign and/or eliminating this problem NOW the mushy poops IF YOU give too much food that can cause mushy poops as i learned that one the hard way hahhaaaaaa Please let us know how it goes if you do a search say on the word BILE you will find older posts discussing this from quite a few members

Sorry for the slow response! I used to get e-mails whenever I had a response to a post and since I didn't get any e-mails I assumed I didn't have any answers.
To answer your questions, Winnie is two years old now and I WAS feeding her once at about 8am, then again at about 6pm. Now I'm feeding her at 8am, 2:30pm, and 8pm. I don't know yet if it's helping since her vomiting was always pretty random, so I can't call it a success unless she goes a couple of weeks without an episode. I haven't talked to my vet about the vomiting, no. I've had Winnie in so many times that they all know me by name and I didn't want to call again over something so minor. We've discussed food allergies and everything before, but they always seem just as confused as I am. I've never heard that eating too much could cause runny poo............hmmmmmm.......but she only eats three cups a day and she's 75 pounds. The vet says she looks like she's in perfect shape, and I walk her about 3 to 3.5 miles six days of the week, so she's definitely not overweight. And thanks for the tip about looking up "bile". I had tried typing in "vomiting" and didn't get much result. I'll give the other a shot. |

Interesting!!!! I just found an old post where someone said that foam in the bile is an indication of bad acid reflux, so it sounds like that's what it is! Her vomit is definitely foamy, but I wouldn't have thought that was a significant detail. Thanks for the tip on how to search, Annmarie!
I saw in that post that people give the dog tums or pepcid..........can I ask what the dose is? I'm hoping that feeding her later will take care of things, but if it happens again I'd like to know how I can help her. And does acid reflux affect the consistency of her poop, too? I know it always seems the most soft when we're out walking, so I've assumed the excercise does that to her, but maybe it's more than that? |
