Good artice, Nancy!
I just heard about a dog that learned to wait until the battery wore down and then would cross the barrier! I had a hard time believing that one! Yeah..these electronic devices must be scrutinized heavily! Bogart's buddy Finn had 2 amateurs try it on him and he kinda got locked in the "zone" and wherever he tried to flee......he got zapped. NOT GOOD!

Great article. With that being said, we use one of these for our dog and have had great success with it. I will say that we watched the training video that came with the system and took our time (a month) training our dog. We have had no problems or horror stories. I will also add that we NEVER leave our dog in the yard with his collar on with no one home AND we are almost always outside working in the yard, hanging out with the neighbors, etc. while he is outside with his collar on........so he spends little to no time outside on his own. I think that if owners are responsible and follow the instructions provided it can be a great fence. We live on 2/3 of an acre in a neighborhood that has very strict fencing regulations. Without this fence, poor Charlie would have been stuck inside with his nose pressed against the glass forever -- not a happy doodle.

Unfortunatly Karen it only takes one time and that could be the last
Big Reason NOT to use them Following intructions although good to do with anything, the instructions are not going to tell you what can go wrong with these things Im all for Better safe then sorry especially in this case |

Somebody lost their dog to one of these?? Oh my gosh that's horrible!! Are they adjustable - as to how much electricity runs through them?? Those things are popular around here - one guy around the corner from me has two acres completely fenced in and he has a german shepherd that has full run of the place - but my neighbors downe the street got one - but they have two big labs - and they said they installed it and their labs never even acted like they noticed it was there - they swear it didn't work at all - so they got rid of it.
At least I have a fenced backyard - I would not take a chance on anything that would hurt my doodle. When we get ours that is. Heather |
