Hey everyone! We have been debating on getting another Doodle for sometime now. Layla will be 8 months old in a few days and I personally think it's time for her to have a buddy! She plays with many other dogs and she just lovesss other dogs.
I was curious on everyone's opinion on adding another, aside from double the vet bills, food, treats, etc. that is all a given. What would you say the pros and cons are for having 2? |

Great idea!
It does take double the time and attention for training, but Layla will help you train a new puppy. I think that you have probably considered that 2 may tie you down a bit more than one, but not so much. I would only suggest that you continue to do things with them each, alone. Get them used to being apart in case one needs to go to the vet overnight or something...that won't be so hard on them. Get them used to being separated for walks and outings too. Other than that I can only say good things about having 2 Doodles! |

I waited until Beck was a year old to get Murphy, by that age he obeyed commands quite well & I didn't want to train two puppies at the same time. It's working out great. The two are best friends and play together all the time. The problem I had was getting them to recognize when I was giving a command to just one dog as opposed to all 3 (we also have a senior citizen australian shepherd) So- I taught them the term 'all dogs' (followed by sit, down, out, etc) and when they hear that they all obey the same command, when I just want one of them to do something I say their name first, then the command.

Personally< I envy you. I've been wanting a second one ever since I fell in love with one the puppies seen on this forum. (Just finacially can''t and not so sure I'd have room). I would just make sure you have the ROOM for a second one. Can't wait to see your new addition.

We are still looking! He was local and I was a bit wary about not getting from a breeder (she was more I guess a backyard breeder, the mother was there, father in pictures) but we wanted to check him out anyway, after I got there, while adorable and absolutely beautiful, he was REALLY dirty and I just didn't like that at all. I mean I played with him and left there with my arms and hands filthy =( Soooo, we sat on the decision for a couple of days and just decided he wasn't for us, something just bothered me about that. Still looking hahaha. However, I am pleased to say he did find a home and I am sure he is quite happy.
