I did my first AI the other day, wasn't near as bad as I thought it would be it really was very easy. Carol at Southern Charm gave a presentation at this years roundtable I think that is what gave me the courage to try it. So we will see what happens and if I was successful or not in 60 days or so.

I didn't do them on this female since I was just trying to learn and had the male here and planned on also doing live cover. I'm doing another today with another female that me and 2 other breeders are sharing the litter. When I took her in on Wednesday the blood work came badk on Thursday and it was 4.3, they also did an LH surge in house and Wednesday it swas high and Thursday was on it's way down so we are AI today. They say if you do the in house LH surge in conjunction with the progesterone levels the best time to breed is at this point. So I will let you all know in 25 days we will do an ultra sound to see if the AI was a success. With my other female they did tie one time so I won't know on her which took the AI I did or the natural breeding. But I wanted the practice and really I feel comfortable doing it with the other girl today!
Thanks Glad to be back with all my frineds old and new! |

WAY TO GO LINDA!!!!
dang, you rock, girl. I'm a wimp and don't wanna do "that" !! But on the other hand, having a vet tell me in detail what my boy "likes" and "wants" in order to give a good 'collection' is a whole other side of the experience, ya know??? |

Yep, still here! We moved out of town but still considered "Parker". We're on some acres now and love the space and LACK of neighbors being so close. (But we do have great neighbors)

Well we did an ultra sound on autumn today and she is pregnant! My Vet said I'm either Very Lucky or Very Good to get it with one Progestrone test and basically the 1st time with no one showing me while I was doing it. Sorry I am bragging a little!

Thanks Jac,
I am proud, I remember the first AI my Vet did for me did not take. One thing I will say about that is they wouldn't hold her up for 15 to 20 minutes, maybe that helps more than they know because I did do it with Autumn. We seen at least 5 embryo's shich is enough as far as I'm concerned of course there could be a few more, she weighs 33 lbs and the stud we AI with is 25 lbs so pups will be a great size also. |

Linda this is all so great!!!
I thought I knew what I was doing with Progesterone, and tried to cut corners and skipped the "last" prg. blood draw with both Truffle and Copper this time around. With Truffle it proved to be expensive to NOT keep getting prog. levels until we got past 4.0 because her cycle stalled and the male went home, and we believe she hadn't ovulated because a WEEK later she was standing for any 4-legged animal that would come near! Honestly I have watched our vets do vaginal AI enough that it seems easy enough and the trick is the "deposit" part, right? making sure the goods land where they belong? DId you use extender? That seems more critical with a large variation in the size of the dogs, right? I'm so proud of you!!! Can't wait for Autumn's delivery! |
