We sadly had to put down our 7 month old chocolate standard poodle boy because it was discovered that he had severe hip dysplasia. He was CKC registered and apparently his parents' hips had both tested good. He came from a breeder in Quebec and we paid $1500 for him. Cruz was an amazing pup with such wonderful potential and such a loving temperament. Cruz was to replace our original chocolate stud ASHER who unexpectedly went sterile at age 2 1/2 (he was AKC REGISTERED and came from a breeder inTennessee). Needless to say, I am heartbroken.
We are thankful that we still have our wonderful cream stud, NIpsey who makes amazing babies. We also have a delightful little red miniature poodle stud named JORDAN. I've learned to AI - thanks to instruction by our vet and we've done really well with minis. But I'll continue to hope for a chocolate standard stud. We want to continue to breed healthy, strong pups who live long, happy lives with their new families. Since 2003, we've not had any problems genetically for which we are blessed - no hip dyplasia. We have strict breeding standards and only use studs that offers superior quality to our doodle babies. We've actually retired a number of breeding adolescents because they did not pass their tests. This is hard after almost 2 years of raising the dog - but I will not compromise! I've been trying to find another breeder of standard poodles who will sell me a great dog. I've sent out tons of emails to all sorts of poodle sites and have nothing but rejection because they will not sell to crossbreeders because as I've been told, doodle breeders are polluting the poodle breed. Many of our customers don't want a curly dog - or they would buy a poodle. Many want labby doodles that possess not only the wonderful traits of the labrador retriever, but also the poodle influence. I don't advertise non-shedding or allergy free because that's not realistic with 1st gens. My customers love that unruly shaggy doodle look that makes 1st gen doodles appealing. But above all, my customers want a healthy dog that will join their forever home. I don't want an inferior poodle stud. I want a wonderful stud with amazing conformation and genetics and am willing to pay for him. I don't want to compromise the poodle community, I want to build the labradoodle community with strong healthy doodle dogs. Thanks for listening...
