As a prospective buyer of the breed and business person I am finding a disturbing trend among Labradoodle breeders that accept Paypal payments to impose a 3% surcharge even though it is against Paypal's policies:
From the Paypal Policy Page Quote:
If breeders are going to accept Paypal payments then they need to play by the rules. Either accept Paypal payments with no surcharge, or don't advertise it as a payment method on your website. I hope this post has educated some breeders that wish to do business in the right way. -Calvis |

Hi Calvis, I am glad that you posted this. I agree with you, and have noticed that some breeders do require this charge.
Under a similar premise, I personally don't shop at gas stations who offer discounts for cash payment because, to me it is the same thing as penalizing a person for using the credit card. The fee charged is, in my opinion, part of doing business and the business owner should accept the consequence because taking PayPal payments increases their sales...it is a marketing trade off. I admire Diane for admitting that she was not informed about this and when she made the changed on her site, it reaffirmed my respect for her. |

Sure, cash discounts are acceptable...and reasonable...but, for me, it's all in how it is advertised....for instance, if at a gas station, they post the price of gas at $2.50 per gallon and in SMALL print, they say...this is the cash price...and you don't see that...so you drive in, put your credit card in, fill up and then find out you paid three cents per gallon more than the sign says!
If they say, $2.50 per gallon, but offer a cash discount of three cents off of the advertised price...that, to me, is good business. |
