My girl had her first litter at 56 days....all 11 pups were strong and healthy. I knew the exact dates she tied, so I was postive of their age.
Perhaps someone else here may have some suggestions, I am hoping you mis-counted. If she does whelp early, I would be extra sure that the pups are plenty warm so that they would in no way be chilled. Fingers crossed for you!! Congrats on your healthy first litter.....pictures please when you can! |

Nope, we are exact on the breeding. We had to travel out of state on this one, and everything went by the calendar. I keep looking at the calendar hoping I miscounted, but I didn't. In fact, she is at day 52 from her first breeding, of the following breedings took those pups are even younger.I read that premature pups need to be kept at about 100 degrees, so we have a box and heat pad ready.

I am sorry you are going through this stress. I have no experience with preemies to help. Lets hope she holds on for a few days. My girl pants for over 48 h before she finally starts. What is her temperature? has it dropped below 100? or 99? That will tell you when labour is within 12-24 h.

Yikes! Cathy...this has never happened to me! All I can do is research but please take her to the vet...maybe the vet can slow or stop the labor....
If you do get preemies...here is a link on how to care for them...but they rarely survive... http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/breedingdog ... litter.htm |

Thanks for thoughts and prayers everyone! Lilly is hanging in there. We now have to keep her on the complete other side of the house with music going so she can not hear the pups from the other litter. If she hears them she starts contracting. She also starts contracting if we leave her alone for more than 3minutes. Odd pregnancy this one! Lilly is normally not at all needy, but this time she is just pitiful. I left her alone for an hour yesterday and she had climbed up on top of a dresser and made a nest. Pregnancy induced insanity

Hey Todd! Hope your girl is fine. I never had puppies that early either but I know someone who hadpreemies and though they required extra attention and work, most of the puppies survived. Please keep us posted. Congrats on your other litter-can't wait for the pictures

Cathy...hope your girl is hanging on!!!
Mhyles30.... checked out your web site......the stud on your upcomming litter is beautiful, but he has a familiar look. Looked up his name... my Marley is his uncle! LOL Gus is known for producing outstanding service dogs so remember that when evaluating your puppies! |

Cathy,
Last month in August we had Monet & Autumn that were due. Monet gave birth 24 hours before due date, Autumn gave birth on day #57 , she had 6 healthy pups. The lowest weight was 4 oz. We had to nipple formula into them for first 2 weeks 3 x per day for the lil ones to gain. All did well...Good luck to you .... Found her on top of the dresser sounds really funny..good you still have your sense of humor despite worry weighing in the back of your mind... keep us posted..anxious to hear the good news.... |
