I finally got a few minutes to surf a few and what do i find
this post another forum about a sick puppy,,with Pano pano can be caused by a reaction to puppy vaccine (distemper),, the pup in question is too young for it to be any other cause i believe!!! http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm ... 61&aid=466 I have a breeder friend that lost a entire litter to parvo because the vaccine caused parvo ,,, the vaccine company made good ,well the best they thought they should i suppose ,but basically admitted that the vaccination was the cause, I ONLY use Intervet Progard 5 ,NO LEPTO CORONA OR LYME UNTIL AFTER 16weeks old, i have used this vaccine for years without reaction, it has been tested on Rottweilers who have real trouble with vaccinations , without reaction at all,, also there is a new strain of Parvo and this is the only vaccine that covers it, this according to the vet that my friend got after the reaction her pups had to vaccine, her exact words " i wish i had listened to you a year ago" BREEDERS please please research the brand of vaccines you use and make decisions from there Nancy Doodlesville http://www.Doodlesville.net |

Thanks Nancy...it is good information. Is the Proguard 5 live or killed?
I am always so afraid of the vaccines...more all the time. But we are at such a disadvantage because we have to vaccinate or we risk Parvo or distemper...*sigh*... Say, when you give the vaccines, do you pull back on the plunger to be sure you aren't in a vein? I have never been able to do that...and I always worry that I am doing something wrong...I hate it...so scary...but I know that those vet techs don't do it much better than I do! What is your opinion of NeoPar? |

Ya know im not sure i will have to look and see if it is live or killed vaccine,
giving vaccine, pull up skin, at shoulders , i dont pull back,, you know if you got in the muscle, if you do it behind shoulder by pulling up skin it rarely gets in muscle, no i dont pull back dont want air in there,, just give,,my pups never feel a thing, of course i have been giving shots for 35yrs though Neopar sounds good, i have no experience other then someone i know had parvo in their kennel, they swear by it, but you know if mom is vaccinated , and pups are vaccinated (i start progard5 at 6weeks old) then there should not be a problem I dont allow visits, so i dont have to worry about foreighn germs being brought in, and if a dog has to go to the vet hospital they are in quarantine for 14days after that and watched closely,, still trying to find a vet here, right now we are using a great emergency vet in Burlington which is over a hr from here,, |

Thanks, that is so good to hear. I don't have problems with the vaccines....except that it took me a while to learn the right needle size! Sheesh...some of them are so big they wouldn't even pierce the skin!
I do pull up on the neck and slip the needle just under the skin but I have always been so worried about what if I get it into a blood vessel!??!!! Scares the beejeebies out'a me! I have heard good things about NeoPar...but I have not used it yet. You know, even with all of the precautions that we take, we go to the store, or the farm store, or the vet and we walk all over the place, we are bound to track things in on our shoes and I just think it could happen so easily...I pray that we never know what Parvo is like...I have heard some true horror stories. And, you are right, the vaccines are as scary as the disease! |

nancy,
where is the best place to get this vaccine (proguard)? Sometimes the vet will pull back sometimes not, I think its persoanl choice..what you feel comfortable with. if given behind shoulder there is slim chance of gettig into a blood vessell...I trust nancy's experience of 35 yrs as a vet tech...Thank you nancy for all of your advice...always! |

Hi Nancy and everyone! I went to KV vet website but I am not sure if the this is the right Progard 5 you have mentioned: http://www.kvvet.com/KVVet/productr.asp ... FB67F93BE0. I want to make sure it's the right one before I order it.
Thanks, Maila

my golden retriever got parvo from a vets office (that was the ONLY place she had been except for my house and backyard) this was a long time ago, and I guess parvo was really prevalent. She was only 9 weeks and she almost died. She pulled through and lived until she was 12, but it was obvious that the high temp had killed a few brain cells. She was the sweetest dog in the world, just not very bright after that

Thank you Nancy. I will compare prices.
Also, last time my vet did not worm my puppies because she said they can react to the wormer. She said she doesn't worm puppies not unless the stool sample show they have worms. My understanding is that, most puppies are born with worms so you worm them anyway as a precaution. I live in CO and some people say since the climate is dryer our puppies/dogs are not as prone to parasites compared to the ones say in FL. I am thinking of worming my puppies anyway because two of the ones that were not wormed by my vet were discovered with worms after they went to their permanent homes. I am looking around for the right wormer, is Panacur a good wormer in your opinion? I appreciate it, Maila
