Have you considered feeding raw? We thought it was going to be difficult but our dogs are loving and seem so much brighter. Teeth are clean and poo (sorry) is light, firm and nowhere near as stinky as it was on processed or cooked food.

I can't recommend it enough.

I seriously have considered RAW but my household isn't too keen on it especially with a 16mos old baby in the house.
I wonder though it it would be better.......i do know that i had to stop using CANIDAE when they changed their formula.

California natural didn't work either.....my doodles put their noses up to Wellness so i do both homemade diet along with Purina.
YES I know the junk food junkie dog food but they love it along with homemade and sometimes wet canned food. THey're both super healthy etc

so for now i am sticking to what i do.

the HOMEMADE cooking i did matched a diet a Cornell canine nutritionist did for a breeder i know here where i live. IT is great BUT also alot of work at times and depending on cost of chicken and beef can be same cost as dog food as here our beef prices can vary week to week.

LindaMarie, are you a member of Delta Society?..I just got the following email regarding raw feeding..In part..If you want all of it..message me with your email and i ll email all of it..
---------------------------------------------------------------------
"Delta Society has always prided itself on having high standards for our Pet Partners (therapy animal) program. As board members learned of medical professionals’ concerns of significantly increased risks of the spread of pathogenic bacteria to humans by animals fed raw protein diets, it was determined that this was an issue that needed review. Based on input from the Medical Advisory Group of Delta Society, the Board of Directors voted to implement a new policy effective June 30, 2010 precluding Pet Partner animals from being fed raw proteins."

from what i understand many that feed raw give their dogs a 10 to 15min break outside as the enxymes break down etc thus then reducing the chance of bacteria.

in my house with a 16mos old toddler it's too crazy to consider doing raw as Alivia would probably try to taste some too

OH deepnite.....my doodles prefer the cheaper dogbrands and are healty on it, so like i said earlier: feed whatever your dog is active and healty on as well as eats it. The HIGH protein and high protein fillers kills max's intestines aka allergies then we he gets mushy tushy on it

it would probably be cheaper to feed these guys with a raw diet vs.
the kibbles i now feed..$60 for a 30 lb bag of kibbles is killing me..

im contiually trying to streamline the foods..but, right now i have the
EVO, Innova,BillJac and a couple bags of cheap Wally..also, i add some ZiwiPeak to each meal...

this ZiwiPeak meat product is a great subsitute to the chicken jerky made in China..

right now im working on a *secret recipet*

i ll boil chicken to get a nice broth till the meat falls off the bones then
strain out the broth..slice up some baked chicken breast, add peas, carrots and celery..then throw it all together ..then adding some corn starch it ll turn into a real good cream of chicken dish..*yummy*..then i ll mix it with Toby s kibble..as fussy as Toby is..he ll eat it up most of the time..then turning up his nose when he gets tired of it and wants something new...then i ll do it all over again with ox tail or pork chops..

I prefer to premium dog food brand meaning no grocery store brands becasue it does not mean you can not buy good food and decent food in a grocery store. Premium dog food to make sure your dog is receiving the best food you can afford.

After everything I have gone through, I give only quality kibble, cook & give some raw....(mainly sliced, meaty neck bones, sliced "Ox-tail", or split marrow bones)
I try & research to recommend how to feed healthy as cheaply as possible for my puppies new owners... will share what I have currently found.
Nutrition
I no longer rely on one food over & over... Hopes this helps somebody's doggies eat better....
(looks like I should probably remove Blue Buffalo in light of recalls...)

I guess i feed RAW here and there if you consider RAW hamburger meat as raw......i look at it this way:whatever your dog is healthy on then feed it and try to add variations and in moderation just as we try to do.

IF a dog is given the same exact food every day for instance say kibble, then it can build up in their system given time say a year or so THUS variations help. Same if you give supplements .....skip a week or do it 3 or 4 times a week depending ont he supplement as it too can build up in a system.

this is just my only personal opinion hahahhaaaaaa

though the Kirkland kibbles sold in our Costco s are made by Diamond..it s not the same i find in our town feed store..

the feed store sell s a Diamond Natural in lamb, chicken and beef..these are free of corn and other feed fillers..last i checked it was still less than
$30 per 40lb bag..though by now the bay may have gone down and the price up..
