Over the years I've had 6 boys and 2 girls at various times. Having thought really hard about this gender question I've come to the conclusion that it's all to do with them as individuals, I can't really say 'the girls were this and the boys were that'. I believe they were probably a mixture of nature and nurture and also how good an owner I was at the time (hopefully getting better!)

I think I posted this on another thread...but I really think it's a temperment thing. Kirby and Dexter are so different and are both males. Kirby is the one who is attached to us, but Dexter is a cuddler...I would go for temperment not gender

Only had one male dog and loved him to death.... butttttttttt........ I prefer my gerls...........all the boyz in the neighborhood LUV females, and none of my gerls EVER pee'd on my plants
It's really hard because I've only had labs and now I have a doodle. I've had a dominant female lab (she would even try to hump other dogs like a male --showing her dominance |

When we were looking for a doodle we really had our heart set on a female chocolate doole. Well Ollie's mom had other plans. She had a littler of 2 Male chocolate doodles and 1 cream male and 2 cream females. We really liked the chocolate colour. Anyway, we had the choice of a cream girl or a chocolate colured boy. We went to meet the litter of doodles to make our choice. We fell in love with the 2 little MALE chocolate doodles. Ollie is just amazing. He's amazingly calm for a puppy and is such a big suck. He is such a snuggly boy spending his time on my feet and keeping them warm. He loves the kids and my husband too. I think that when we get our second doole we will also get a boy.
We have always had girl dogs in the past, but Ollie has changed our mind about the boys.

Denver...you are brazen!
Jane, are you talking about a neutered male? Most pups, if neutered early enough, don't have a need to mark...and I actually have a female (keep in mind that almost all of my dogs are intact) who marks! She is more male than my males...it is very funny to watch her. Thank you all for your input...the families have made their selections, and your posts have helped. (I should have warned them that our "G" rating sometimes slips a bit when talking about boys vs girls. |

Well, I am dealing with wonderful families...and the first family has agreed to take a male, leaving the female for the second family...so everybody wins...especially the pups!

Just to keep the record straight here...
Yes, all the male dogs in my neighborhood (including mine) were neutured. The peeing on plants is nothing more than an irritation for an "older" The "challenging" I saw with the other males towards my male, I feel was due to lack of SOCIALIZATION. Some people just ASSUME there will be a bad confrontration and therefore refuse to let the boyz "come together" for a "meet and greet" (excuse me, may I sniff yer butt?). Well hello.... if you "jerk" your dog away from mine every time I walk down the street ..... your dog will get frustrated and show aggression ! I'll shut up now. Doodles are social butterflies no matter what the gender -- it's about how you raise them. I guess I just prefer the pink smooth tummy. p.s. and I must add, Denver is most definitely the cutest MALE SLUT doodle on the forum. (posted by Jazz) |

I got a girl because I didn't want to see the private parts. Maya is my dog and if given a choice will prefer to cuddle with me. However, if my BF calls her up she will go and cuddle with him too, she just never has gone on her own yet when I have been home. Sadie (not a doodle) is a female as well. I think she likes my BF better but as far as cuddles she is Maya's dog. Sadie prefers to cuddle up on top of, next to, or any other way she can find so she is touching Maya. Luckily they are 2 peas in a pod and Maya just takes it all in stride.
