Default A friend for Candy

Hi,

I have a wonderful 18 month old dog that I adopted as a puppy from my local humane society.

Candy's a happy girl, with a circle of canine friends at our local dog park, but I think she'd be even happier if she had another dog to play with here at home. So I'm looking for a friend for her.

Although I don't know what mix of breeds Candy is (the Humane Society called her a black male standard poodle ), she's very smart, sweet, social, playful and active, has a doodle/poodle play-style (her best friend is a Goldendoodle) and looks very "doodle like" to me (she's my avatar, here).

I've been looking locally for a young male companion for Candy for several months. I'd like to find a Labradoodle, but Labradoodles are popular in the Seattle area, and youngsters are usually adopted on the same day they are posted on Petfinder. (I work, and can't usually get to the shelters before the weekend.)

I watch the IDOG list, too -- there are many wonderful dogs posted there, but they tend to be in the Midwest, the South and on the East Coast. I'm not wealthy, and can't afford to fly from WA to TX or NY, for example, to meet a dog. And, I don't know -- but it seem unkind to me to ship a dog who could find a good local home?

I've also tried craigslist. But the dog I found there was, it turned out, stolen, rather than rescued. I don't use craigslist now, for that reason.

I'm writing to ask: first, (just out of curiosity) does my Candy look like a Labradoodle to your expert eyes? Second, is searching Petfinder and watching the IDOG list the best way to find a young Doodle in need of a home? Or am I missing something? Should I be writing to breeders, maybe?

Thanks.

PS I am happy to have found this board -- so much knowledge, and so many wonderful dog pictures.

Hi and welcome! I think you should contact IDOG and let them know what you are looking for. They can help you instead of just searching the site.

Good luck!!

Welcome! Candy is so cute and I think she looks like a labradoodle. I would love to see more pictures of her. I hope IDOG can help you. I'm sure others will offer ideas too.

I found my doodle, Finn, in the classified ads on petfinder. The ad had been posted for nearly two weeks when I responded. His previous person needed to rehome him due to a job loss. There are usually several labradoodles in the classifieds there at any given time. Good luck with your search!

WELCOME!
Candy is really cute! I do think she looks like a doodle and also a little like the wheaton terrier mix in the neighborhood. Any more pics?

Hi Candy is a cutie pie! She looks like a Doodle to me...mabye her ears are not quite as big as most, but her face sure looks Doodly to me.
I think that you might want to do more than check the IDOG lists, contact them and fill out an applicaiton and get on their wait list. They can approve you and when a dog becomes available, they will notify you, even before it gets on a list. Not all of their dogs go to a list.

I would contact breeders around you too if there are any. Sometimes they have older pups available or an older dog that was used for breeding that is retiring.

But I agree with the others. Contact IDOG as well.
