Default Service Dog

Does anyone have any experience in using a Labradoodle as a service dog? I am in the beginning stages of finding a suitable dog to be trained as a service dog.

I would not want a puppy. I need to find a dog that has at least basic training and social skills, and of course housebroken. Then I could apply for the specialized training for certification as a service dog.

The dog would have to have a temperament suitable to being a service dog. I am not sure how to find such a dog, but if anyone has any suggestions I would like to hear it.

Get ahold of Jac (BackPorch Labradoodles)....she has a non-profit program started for Labradoodle service dogs.

Thanks Judi, for remembering!
Yes, Nancy, we are a 501 (c) (3) non profit corporation but we are still working on the details and web page/logo and such so we have not announced, officially.
I will send a PM to cozam.

I would suggest posting the info here,
that is for service not for breeder listing
need to help as many as we can that need it dontcha think
I have a problem with breeders listing and referrals, not service dogs

I too have a caring paws healing hearts program, for therapy
I donate for service ,,only to organizations that raise and train the dog for specific needs, and from my experience I feel that is the best way for the dog and the family

Your program sounded just awesome when we spoke about it,earlier this year and i truly think we need to all work together to make sure service and therapy dogs are put in the hands of people that need them!!!!

Thanks so much, Nancy...I am happy to talk about our organization because I believe that it will serve many people who are normally left out of other programs.
I am working very hard to find the right trainer to build our program with and once we have someone, there will be no stopping me! LOL
I am very excited about our direction and what we will be able to accomplish with our dogs ("ours" maning doodles everywhere!)
So, as soon as I am able to be very clear with our program direction, I certainly will post...until then, I am happy to work with individuals when I can so I hope that anyone would feel free to contact me with questions and comments or to volunteer help! (I have kept my previous list of gracious volunteers...and you are on that list, Nancy!)
