Default stinky dog??

Hey,
Just had another question. I saw a lady out at Feeders Supply today who mentioned that a relative had a golden doodle. She said while the dog was really good with the kids, it smelled really bad! She said her relative kept it indoors until it was 6 months old and then it was made into an outside dog. She said while it was inside, it smelled sooo bad.
She also said that it was originally a 1800 dollar well bred dog that they traveled to Georgia to get.
She even said that 3 days after grooming, it already stunk.
She also said at 3 y.o. it was very high strung.
Any ideas about the smell of these guys?
My standard never was smelly, despite his size, and it was great!!
Thanks,
Rachael

I'll try and be positive ok.... Routine ear cleaning and bathing keeps our doodle minty fresh! There I was very polite if I do say so myself Honestly, some folks should not have dogs. To make a statement like that without looking for a source and banning the poor doodle to the backyard...Oooops there I go Please forgive me! We have Condo board members that smell much worse than Abby!

I agree!!! Maya doesn't smell that bad ever!!! She gets a bath once a month. I think there must be something wrong health wise with the dog. Please know that we are not attacking you but as doodle owners we know these dogs. Doodles are happiest with their family. This poor dog that is banished outside has to be so unhappy!!!

ok i am nice but going to be honest

1. if a dog smells ...wash it first
2. if it still smells try to figure out why and call a vet
3. Doodles are NOT made to be outdoor dogs all alone
and then wonder why it's hug strung?!
4. why does this person even have a dog if they aren't willing
to take the time, care, attention, love and more that it needs?

usually i try to be very polite, for once i'd rather just be
plain honest.
why not figure out what is causing the smell...I feel bad for this doodle

Since the lady was a complete stranger, and I'm not likely to ever see her again, I couldn't answer any of your questions. I know that ear infections do smell (we had been very lucky with my standard that he didn't have many), and I knew that one of the poodle perks was their lack of odor. I had wondered if this carried through with the mixes.
Understand that I would never have a dog kept outside (what's the use in having a dog at all?)
My dogs have always been inside dogs, slept in their beds in my room, and been pampered quite a bit.
In defence of stinky dogs, I have a very old beagle mix who, while the breed is known to be stinky, really isn't too bad in my estimation.
I know that you guys mean the best and I have learned quite a bit from you, but don't shoot the messenger!!
Thanks,
Rachael

The only thing stinky on my 3 is their feet, and they smell like corn chips or Cheetos. The smell doesn't bother me....just makes me hungry.....

Ditto on all accounts.....Rachael it wasn't meant to offend you
more of a reaction to someone else, besides i can't shoot straight

doodles like poodles usually don't have doggy odor unless
there's an ear infection or some illness

Cheeto for YOU Gene baby!!??

Rachael!!!!! It's NOT you!! It's GENE!!

Dogs feet DO smell like cheeto's!!!

Bogart doesn't stink either. Just when he had that ear infection.
But, I also have to totally agree with mtd. Doodle's don't belong outdoors........That's like too sad for me. BATHS WORK!

Default dog feet???

Okay,
No offense taken. I must admit, I was pretty sad when she said that the dog was an outdoor dog. Unless you're a farmer, I see no reason to have a dog strictly outdoors!!
I am concerned about you folks though. You smell your dogs feet? Yikes, isn't there a therapy for that somewhere??
But I am glad to know that these guys don't smell too much.
thanks,
Rachael
