Default Help again, please :)

Okay, so I've decided it's one of the two puppies, #1 or #3, and I've gotten a response from the breeder (THANK YOU whoever suggested asking the "which is MOST........" question) saying #1 is the busiest and #3 is the most playful, but quiet. Not sure what would be the better decision for someone who wants a laid back dog.......

But anyway, here's my dilemna. Jac has already assured me that F1s are way easier to groom than F1Bs, even with the longer coat. But now puppy #1 is looking more curly, even more so than Jac's F1 puppy, and I'm afraid I'm going to be getting myself into too much with grooming. I tried looking at the "puppy to grown-up" post to compare, but no one says what type of dog theirs is, and I know there's a BIG difference between the coat of a goldendoodle and a labradoodle, and between the coat of an F1 and an F1B. Can anyone hazard an educated guess as to what she'll look like as she gets older? Do you think she'll get super-curly?

And I'm thinking puppy #3 (playful but quiet) will grow up to look more like Jac's F1. Does that seem right?

Thank you!!!

awwwwh!! Honestly number 1 doesn't look that curly to me. How old are they now? I'll pose you some photos of Dex as a young puppy (he's a F1B with a fleece coat) so you can compare. Dex does mat though...

5 weeks

11 weeks

As an "adult" with a full long coat

I remember seeing pics of Dex on the puppy to full grown post. Sooooooo cute! But is it possible for an F1 to have a fleece coat? And when Dex matts, is it easy to cut out? Or is it really difficult to deal with? And how much grooming does Dex require? Do you cut his hair, and how often?

They're about 5 1/2 weeks right now (will be 6 on Monday)

rabidpecan.....Peanut's coat is all fleece she's a f1 goldendoodle that until about 7 weeks old had straight thick short fur, with just a few tiniest waves

around 12 to 13 weeks her coat changed to having short multiple waves

NOW if you want the laid back one go with #3 as most goldendoodle puppies have energy but if their basic temperament is quiet then more than likely as that doodle matures it will be so as an adult: more laid back possibly like my peanut.
Peanut had energy very playful but more on the quiet side in litter and the runt hahahaa
NOW she is sooooooo mellow yet goofy at times we love it!

Her coat now requires beign groomed every 3-4mos
i'll try to post some pics later today of her as a puppy and now

AnnMarie.....But can an F1 labradoodle have a fleece coat? I tried doing a bunch of research online and it looked like most people felt the longest their hair can get is 3-4 inches and that it can't get fleecy, but it certainly looks like this one may be the exception.

Thanks for the tips about temperment! It's going to be tough making a decision. #1 will probably be higher maintenance, both with fur and temperment, but she's sooooooooooooo cute, I think I may be willing to risk it. I'll be home with her all day for the most part, and I'm looking forward to taking her on long walks (when she's old enough).

Oh! And I think I've seen pictures of Peanut in the puppy to full grown post. I'm pretty sure I used her pictures to show my husband what #1 might grow up to look like.

I'm pretty sure a F1 can have a fleece coat - hopefully one of the breeders will respond here.

I'm sorry - are those puppies labra or goldendoodles?

sorry with all the postings i got confused was thinking GD's hahhaa

now do you have allergies? just curious
and fleece coats are gorgeous but hair coats are virtually
groom free, dry in 30min etc

I don't know what to tell you as I go by Temperament
and take whatever coat comes with that particular doodle

I don't think I have allergies. I had a friend who had a lab when I was in high school and when I'd spend the night my eyes would sometimes be a little itchy by morning, but it was never within a half-hour and who knows if it was allergies or from staying up all night But I've spent time with labs since then and never had a problem. So even if I DO have allergies, they must be extremely mild.

I did a little more research and found that a few people said it's entirely possible for an F1 to have a fleece coat, but it's extremely difficult to predict their coat. So I guess I'll just have to go with temperment and take my chances. Thanks!

Default question

What does your breeder say about the coat differences in the pups? If she has raised several litters, she may be able to give you a good idea about them. F1's can have fleecey coats. If I were you, I'd ask the breeder a few more questions about the coats. It sounds like you want a dog that is pretty low maintenance coat-wise and of course, has a good temperament. Good Luck!

Well, I just sucked it up, made a decision, and picked #1! Can you all tell yet that I'm a HORRIBLE decision maker? And having to choose on something as big as this was sooooooo hard. But I figure when you have kids you don't really know what they're going to turn out like, but you love them anyway. Here I've at least got SOME choice, but if she gets matts in her coat that make me want to scream bloody murder, I know I'll still love her to pieces.
So thanks for all of your tips, and if any of you have further advice to offer, I'd still love to hear it. Now I just have to sit back and wait for another week and a half and I'll finally have our girl. I can't wait!!

Congrats on your decision I'm a sucker for the fluffy fleece coats (if you couldn't tell) so I would have chosen 1 too

We knew nothing when we chose Dexter - they had a white, cream and black puppy and we thought Dex was the cutest so that's how we chose...haha...in 20 yrs when we get more puppies I will be so much better educated with what to ask about
