Default puppy coat to adult coat

Hey,
I am just beginning to learn about labradoodles, but so far, I'm very interested. I had my own standard poodle, Stanley, who passed away this summer. I can't really do another standard, although he was a fabulous pet!! He was warm and friendly, cuddly and smart, and I'm afraid I could never look at another standard without seeing him.
So I'm thinking of a labradoodle, but would like one with that little old man look, not the long hair, or the really curly. I've seen some pictures of puppies and wondered if you can tell what the adult coat might be like. I know disposition is the most important, but if I have a choice...
Any opinions?
Thanks,
Rachael

Thank YOU so much SUE for posting that great link!!!

HI Rachael...sorry to hear of your loss but you've also come to the right place for info and more. The above link is one of the best to see coats

(also put a search w/ the name "Pip Pip Doodley Doo" as she too lost her poodle last nov. and now has a doodle)

and all different kids of LD and Gd's

I have f1 LD and f1 GD....sweet, comical, friendly, train easily, love to be with you/family, very intelligent and the list is infinite.

the ones like Sue's Denver andmy Max (black one) have the least grooming and probably the old man look the most
while others have the teddy bear look

Temperament.......i'd say is top priority w/health ....then try to fit
coat/look you want

Thanks so much for the link. It did really show me how the babies grow up! I am so surprised to see how one litter of pups can have so many different looking puppies!!
Your curly guys made me get pretty teary eyed. My Stanley will not soon be forgotten.
My husband says that we should be able to get a new pup in October, so I have some time to research and look.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Rachael

If you know what grown look you want, then once you find your breeder, I think they can help you pick the pup is is most likely to grow into your desired look...

Default This can be a daunting process

especially while you are still healing from your loss.

You can take a look at our site, our Royal Families page shows adult dogs with both really curly coats (which I know you dont want) as well as the fleecy coats which feel like butter.

Our dog give us consistent looking puppies so I always know what I am looking at even when they pups are very young.

Default Coat

Wow, you sound like me. I am so sorry for your loss. We lost our beloved Std. Poodle, Marley, in November. She was 15. We also could not get another poodle. It would have been so hard. I still get teary when I see a blk. std. So I understand how you are feeling. We got our labradoodle, Bailey, in January. We are fortunate enough to live near a wonderful breeder who really helped us during our grief. We absolutely LOVE Bailey. SHe is everything we wanted. She is a multi-gen and does not shed. Her coat is fleecy and so far, I think much easier to take care of as it is easier to brush, it just isn't as dense and curly. My kids can even help brush her. As for her personality, she is fun and lovable! There are "poodley" things that she does which are just wonderful. She is sweet and funny too. I could not handle the absence of Marley, so we got Bailey fairly soon. It has helped us. The most important thing is to find a breeder you trust and like. Do your research and chat with people on this board. There are lots of nice people.
