Default Tax on sale price?

I've been looking on numerous websites for possibly another mini Labradoodle and have noticed that some websites charge a sales tax. Is that normal? Some say it's on any purchase no matter what state you are from and some say that if you are from the state of Washington, which is where I live, you will pay a sales tax but many don't mention this at all. So I'm confused about this. What is all your experience with this?

Marty, Good Morning, it is good to hear from you and that you are considering another doodle! When it comes to buying out of state, as long as the business does not have a store in your state, you do not pay sales tax. I did not pay sales tax on Lani or Toby they came from a breeder in Indiana. Let us know what you decide! How are you all doing? Is your son home yet?

As a breeder and I went to a CPA for advice so I wouldn't mess up, he told me any dog that I sell in my State I have to pay tax on, any dog that goes out of State I don't. However I still don't charge the family the tax although I do pay it in to the State. Most breeders don't actually add this on top of the price of the puppy they just consider it part of their business overhead.

hey Marty, I'm really hoping I have mini f1b's coming in 5wks!

I'm with Linda....I don't charge the family any sales tax, even if they are local. There's so many other expenses in the "overhead" of breeding it seems silly, in my opinion, I guess, so I don't want to go there and just pay it. And my understanding is like Lisa's on the out-of-state purchases.

Gee, come to think of it, I hope I remember to keep track of the out of state sales and separate them on my taxes!

Perfect answers and advice. I agree, most breeders don't charge the tax on top, it is just part of the price, and it is required for in-state purchases...much like things you buy on eBay!
Congratulations on your decision to get a second!

Thank you all for your answers to my queston. I was really getting confused on what the 'rules' were since it seemed so random. Just curious mostly since the tax won't make that big of a difference when it comes to a new love of my life.

Lisa, my son is on the boat and headed home!! Hopefully, his last time to Iraq. He'll be back in southern California just before Thanksgiving. We plan on driving his car and our car down there and taking Jorja with us. That should be exciting. Homecomings are the best!! As we get one son home the youngest leaves. He was commissioned as a Marine Corps officer in June and is headed off to flight training. Such is life but we are so proud of our Marines!

Maureen, as you can see from my picture my mini is chocolate. I'm hoping to get her a buddy. My Border Collie doesn't exactly play with her. We are hoping to get a black or parti colored Doodle this time.
Jorja is the most entertaining dog we could have ever hoped for. She makes us laugh and has been so huge in getting us through our son's deployments.

Thanks to all!

Marty

oh we LOVE partis!!
You've got me curious, are you getting a mini from Jodi? She's the only one I know with miniature parti's. It would be great to bring home a new puppy while in So. Cal. to welcome home your brave son! Congrats to your newly commissioned son, too! I can't even imagine having one of my boys over there, altho my 16yr old son DOES look at the Marine Corps and wonder if he wants to go there in his career......sigh. Be brave, and proud of your boys!

We hope and pray we have mini's coming....our male is chocolate, female golden, so if she carries chocolate we should have some! And if she doesn't, I guess we'll find that out too. Our boy Hershey carries red and Copper has had beautiful RED puppies before so that could be great, too. So we expect gold/reds, blacks, and possibly chocolates. But the waiting makes me crazy and since we have to use AI and trust science PLUS nature it's really hard to wait.

Hi Jac, I've checked out Jodi's website. I love that she has a patriotic page. Will you have black mini's? I absolutely love the Parti's but seems hard to find. But even though I'm anxious to get another dog I know I need to be patient. Jorja's mommy and daddy are having another little in October and that would be perfect but when I went to visit my parents in Kansas back in May I went to visit where Jorja was born. I wanted to meet her parents. Needless to say I wasn't happy with what I saw. There were SO many dogs and the smell was awful. I felt horrible for the conditions they were in. I know that would not be the case with any of the breeders from this website. All of you love your dogs like your own children and the puppies are born into a loving family.

Hi Maureen,

Hershey is a cutie bug. He's much darker chocolate then our doodle. I really like black dogs and have had black and white dogs forever before Jorja. My kids call her shit storm. Yes, it does seem to be a guessing game with what you will get, huh? But all are wonderful when they get here.

If your son decides to join the Marines hang on! It's been a wonderful experience to be a Marine mom. The Marine family is awesome! I've met some of my closest friends through my son's time in the Corps.

My oldest son who is on his way home absolutely loves dogs. He adopted several while in Iraq but unfortunately couldn't bring them back with him. I shudder to even think what happened to them when the Marines left. I know it really bothers him too. Tyler will be getting out of the Marines shortly after he returns so he'll be coming home to live for a little while before transitioning back into civilian life. Should be an interesting time for all. Just thought I'd share this picture from the end of March. This is the last time we saw him. He had just gotten to our house after driving non stop from California. He was so tired and his arm was hot and swollen from an anthrax shot. Jorja crawled him beside him and laid her head on his owie. All I could say was "AHHHHHHH".

My, how proud you must be of your sons! And equally concerned, I'm sure. I worked for the AF for 21 years as a civilian. The military "family" --no matter the branch of service-- IS magnificent!!!

Jorja is so cute! That is such a loving picture!
I agree with Diane, you must be so proud...and very grateful to have this past him now too.
My husband's father was an Air Force pilot, he traveled all over the world with his mother and they did not have it easy, but they did have that sense of family that you mention.
So glad that you are expecting a reunion very soon!
